And now, the moment we've all been waiting for. It's been a long haul dating back to mid january, there were many more entries than anticipated, the quality of work covered a wide spectrum, and there were almost as many styles as there were entries. It's been extremely hard selecting one entry above another (there's been some exceptionally fine submissions), and in the case of trucks we had to expand the categories to accommodate the middle ground between repaint and scratch-built, but in the end no contest is truly a contest until winners are announced. So, without further ado (we'll save the fine print for afterward), the ballots are in, the votes have been tabulated, the tallies made, and here are the results: The winners are:
Repaint truck
Wango Zee Tango Durango
Custom truck
Rox Racing
Scratch built truck
Radical Rescue
Rookie track
usa motorsports
Advanced track
LaPaWop
In addition to the rhinoseros.com cap and dvd, each winner earns an mtm2.com e-mail address. Please send a note to phineus for details.
We here at the mtmg/mtm2.com would like to extend a big congratulations to everybody who participated, and who helped make the Expo 2003 the biggest event we've ever held. The turn out was phenomenal and the quality of work has been first rate - once again demonstrating why mtm2 is the best online gaming community on the internet. We thank you, and look forward to new releases from all of you in the future.
(Clawfford, I'll respond to yer post asaic)
After incredibly thorough and pain staking scrutiny, the expo track and truck reviews are now available for your edification and entertainment.
Another quick note to let you know the prize packs were shipped out yesterday afternoon. Be on the look out for them by the end of the week or early next week. Other news, reviews are coming along. Hopefully it won't be much longer now.
Just a quick note to let you all know we're hard at it. Reviews and announcements still to come. Hang in there.
As promised, here is the special announcement. So pleased are we with the turn out for the expo that we have decided everybody who entered something, track and/or truck, deserves recognition for their efforts. To that end, then, I'm delighted to say that ALL entrants qualify for and will receive an mtm2.com Expo 2003 prize package. Of course, this means we'll need a mailing address so we can send it out to you. To help make sure proper information is provided, we've set up a handy dandy Contact Form that should include all the necessary details. (Rest assured this information is kept strictly confidential and is used only for the purpose of shipping your goodies to you. After all, we cannot ship anything without an address). Please be sure to complete the form accurately. We cannot be responsible for misdirected deliveries. Note. The contact form is for expo participants only. If you did not enter a track or truck, please do not submit your contact info. Once again, congratulations to everybody who entered. Please allow four to six weeks for delivery.
The time is after midnight EST August 4th 2003 which means the expo is now officially closed. This means several things. First and foremost is the upload page will remain online for only a few hours more to accommodate stragglers, daudlers and time zone differences. After that, additional extries will not be accepted. So far, we've received 24 tracks and 22 trucks, which means we will be busy examining them, writing reviews, and selecting winners. Please be patient with us, this is no small or easy task and will take considerable time. To help ease you through this waiting period, I ask all entrants to check back here tomorrow for a special announcement. And finally, it gives me great pleasure to inform the mtm2 community that downloads are now available, so go get 'em and please enjoy the varied offerings by our creative friends - some old and familiar, and some new faces we hope will stick around. They've all worked hard to bring added enjoyment to our game and they deserve a big round of applause for daring to subject their work to the scrutiny of others. Good luck everybody, and be sure to check back tomorrow.
IMPORTANT. We have had several entries submitted with errors. Please please please have somebody test your work before entering it. Or, if you have nobody to test, then make sure you include a valid e-mail address in your readme.txt file so we can contact you about fixing it up. There is plenty of help around; all you have to do is ask and we'll help you get your creations in the game. Thanks.
Check out the Expo 2003 banner's on KC's track and truck pages. The pop ups too ;-)
After a lot of very serious consideration, it has been decided that the closing date for the expo will be extended to August 4th. If anybody said to me at the beginning that three months would not be enough time, I wouldn't've believed it. But here we are. The Pros and Cons have been weighed, it was not an easy decision, but it is our conviction that we can broaden the reach of the expo and at the same time still maintain the integrity of its intended purpose; that is, the sharing of mtm creations under the common aims of the expo and to promote the creativity our game offers. Toward this end, I think it's only fair to say that entries submitted before the original closing date will receive a dateline consideration in their favor. So, if your work is nearing completion, then you should still try to get it in by June 21st. The extension is designed to accommodate a bigger turn out; it is not geared to providing unfair advantage to late comers. If you have any questions, please join the discussion here
News and update. It is always a good idea to include contact information in a readme.txt file for your work. You never know when we may need to get in touch with you about one thing or another. Or, at the very least, make sure your profile info is up to date on the forum. And, of course, it never hurts to check in from time to time to make sure you know the latest news.
Speaking of news, we are seriously considering extending the closing date. Progress reports by several would-be expo'ers suggests an extension will result in considerably more entries. I'll have an announcement for you by the end of this week. In the meantime, you may have your say here.
Today is March 21. The expo is official open. Hoopla!
First update. I started forum topics for each category and level.
Yessirreebob, another Expo !
Like all our competitions, there will be two parts for entry. This time we'll be looking at tracks and trucks, and for each of those we'll be considering first time makers as well as work from seasoned pros.
For Rookie efforts, we'll be looking at traxx school projects or very first tracks. For Rookie trucks we're expecting a mdmre repaint, tho more is certainly acceptable. This is low pressure and we encourage everybody who has never made anything, one way or the other, to get their feet wet and see how the other half lives.
For experienced track makers, we're looking for things with a theme. The choice of theme is up to the maker. The aim is to create a fully developed theme. For advanced trucks, we're looking for scratch built. It can be anything you want but must be completely from scratch.
For both categories, and for both levels, the emphasis is on fun. Where would we be without it.
I will post official news and updates on this page as stuff happens. General discussion and questions will take place on the mtmg forum.
If you have any comments or questions, please send a note here : phineus@karf.net
Or better yet, post on the forum.
