Hi guys, I'm new here and I decided to contribute a little. While I was clearing up my hard drive and I came across a copy of MTM1 Beta 2 and when I tried running the game, it says "Beta has expired, please go out and buy the game". Then, I replaced the Truck.pod in the final MTM1 with the beta and I got the orange Carolina Crusher, but there is no Patriot truck.

Wow, thanks for sharing! Seems to be a legit Beta 2 build 41. I had to use cracklock and set the system date to July 1 1996 to launch the game. MTM1 was almost done from here. I have found small diferences, like UI track pics, different pitboard and cockpit view (if you remove the cockpit), the orange carolina crusher, and a status bar it seems. I had to turn off hardware acceleration to play.

Yup. And when u finish a rally race you have to wait 60 seconds to see the results. Some other weird stuff, there were no HOF problems, you could reach the sky just like in TRI's older games.MTM Trucker wrote:Go to the soccer field at Highlands rally, the goalposts are completely differentKmaster wrote:Wow, thanks for sharing! Inside the MONSTER.EXE executable there are some hidden stuff that was deleted in the retail version. Some scrapped menus and dialogs. In the version info we can confirm that the codename was "metalcrush", and before naming the game "Monster Truck Madness", the name of the game was "Heavy Metal Truck" (HMETAL.EXE)
Code: Select all
VALUE "CompanyName", "Microsoft"
VALUE "FileDescription", "Monster Truck Simulator"
VALUE "FileVersion", "1, 0, 0, 1"
VALUE "InternalName", "MetalCrush"
VALUE "LegalCopyright", "Copyright ©1996, Microsoft, Inc. Portions Copyright ©1995-1996, Terminal Reality, Inc."
VALUE "OriginalFilename", "HMETAL.EXE"
VALUE "ProductName", "Monster Truck Madness"
VALUE "ProductVersion", "1, 0, 0, 1"
There is also a list of trucks inside the monster.exe. Probably Heavy Metal Truck/Metalcrush truck editor leftovers.
Code: Select all
Chevy Pickup 1
Chevy Pickup 2
Chevy Pickup 3
Dodge Pickup 1
Dodge Pickup 2
Ford Bronco 1
Ford Bronco 2
Ford Pickup 1
Tire 1
Tire 2
Theres another list inside the exectuable that shows a skill level below "Rookie" called "Bubba"

I found some old MTM2 pics made by TRI to show the Photex2 engine capabilities.

Yes, I find it very strange that those tire textures aren't in the game files anywhere, because the beta wheel and axle bar textures can be found the in TRUCK2.POD file.Nascarfan15 wrote:Also there look's to be different tire's on those truck's in the picture you posted above also "SP"!Ahh you gotta love beta version's and picture's of game's!
