Wow, thanks for sharing! Seems to be a legit Beta 2 build 41. I had to use cracklock and set the system date to July 1 1996 to launch the game. MTM1 was almost done from here. I have found small diferences, like UI track pics, different pitboard and cockpit view (if you remove the cockpit), the orange carolina crusher, and a status bar it seems. I had to turn off hardware acceleration to play.
Go to the soccer field at Highlands rally, the goalposts are completely different
Yup. And when u finish a rally race you have to wait 60 seconds to see the results. Some other weird stuff, there were no HOF problems, you could reach the sky just like in TRI's older games.
Inside the MONSTER.EXE executable there are some hidden stuff that was deleted in the retail version. Some scrapped menus and dialogs. In the version info we can confirm that the codename was "metalcrush", and before naming the game "Monster Truck Madness", the name of the game was "Heavy Metal Truck" (HMETAL.EXE)
Code:
VALUE "CompanyName", "Microsoft"

VALUE "FileVersion", "1, 0, 0, 1"
VALUE "InternalName", "MetalCrush"

VALUE "OriginalFilename", "HMETAL.EXE"

VALUE "ProductVersion", "1, 0, 0, 1"
There is also a list of trucks inside the monster.exe. Probably Heavy Metal Truck/Metalcrush truck editor leftovers.
Code:
Chevy Pickup 1
Chevy Pickup 2
Chevy Pickup 3
Dodge Pickup 1
Dodge Pickup 2
Ford Bronco 1

Probably some of them are displayed here.
Theres another list inside the exectuable that shows a skill level below "Rookie" called "Bubba"
