Heavy Metal Truck?? (the beta version of MTM)

Post by Kmaster »

Guys, check this out

Image
We all know that the MTM codename was Metal Crush, but what about this?

Image
Heavy Metal Truck Splash image (not with the correct pal.)
from : MTM1 Startup.pod

Image
from : MONSTER.EXE resource dialog

Also :
we can found the original Heavy Metal Truck icon in
Monster Truck Madnes\Setup\HEAVYSU.DLL
in the CUSTOMUI.DLL file (mtm1 setup files) we can found some dialog that, instead of MTM1 shows : Heavy Metal Truck Setup

Cool, isn't it?

Kmaster, you continue to amaze! I love these "before it was MTM" nuggets of info!

Truck editor, eh? I wonder if it was originally planned to ship with the game?

i don't open DLL files, I only view their PE 32-bit resource files
(That's why I could translate MTM2 including its menus, dialogs and stuff..)
I use the Resource Hacker to view the resources.

Thanks for the support. [;)]

This just reminded me of a book I found in Building #19 (a MA bargain basement store) many years back. It had early shots of the UI and the only real truck's name listed was Snake Bite. I forget most of the other trucks, but one was The Patriot, for sure. I also remember someone posting a beta shot of the game on the old MTMBBS as well...

The first I knew of the game was seeing some CNN tech show with a segment on Windows 95 games, and Snake Bite and Samson racing each other, that was way back as well.

I love this old "pre-history of MTM" stuff. I wonder if it might be worth contacting TRI to see if they might still have anything. I somehow doubt it but it may be worth a shot...

Didn't buy it. It was like a review of software for Windows 95. The pics were small and it was in a special section devoted to games.

This may have very well been it:

Kmaster, make the Police one next! :P

I was always wondering why it was called metalcr2.act... it's a file for C-Pod, I think.
