 Post subject: Truck AI Question
PostPosted: Sat Apr 02, 2005 3:29 am
Some of the tracks either lack a good AI or have no AI at all. This to say the least is annoying. Is there a way to make good AI for these tracks? If so, how? Anyone with info on this matter is most appreciated.

Not true.

Are you planning on making a track or do you have some other reason for asking?

And while we're here, you should try racing online. I think you'll find the competition much improved over the computer trucks. Here's a page on how to race at the zone.

And here's a page about general game help

Phinny, what do you mean not true? Some tracks dont have an AI configured.

Yes, that's true, but mainly applies to drag tracks, as most circuit tracks have AI.

And some have poor AI as mentioned, since the trucks cannot complete a lap without crashing a number of times, or they start running in circles in several locations on the track.

There is, but it takes some work, and has to be done when the track is being created, not afterwards.

When I was learning the ropes of this game I used to race Swiss Alps quite a bit. In pro mode the trucks are pretty darn good - used to beat me senseless lol. It's true there are some tracks out there whereby the trucks aren't competative at all - partially because of the maker, but on occasion due to the track design (Hammerhead, for example). I think Valvejob is the only guy I know of who freely admitted to foregoing setting up the AI for his tracks lol. His tracks were for online play . . . either that or you'd just have to be content to run it solo.

Anyway, my point is if you can find tracks with decent AI, great, but I highly encourage you to try online play. The competition is always better & more consistent, plus you get to play with a variety of skill levels which should help you improve quite a bit. Adding to the fun you'll have on the tracks is the chatter in between races; getting to know different people, exchanging information, and the like. So that's my pitch lol. Come on out and give it a try. :)

Oh hey, things are . . . evolving with respect to the Zone and MTM. For now here's how you get to the Nitro room (which seems to be back for the moment):

Start here and sign in, then click here to enter the Nitro room.

AI are also system dependant which I proved beyond doubt a couple years ago... Thanks to rocketalces :o)

The only beef I had with online play is the incompatibility between broadband and dial-up users. Whenever I raced on dial-up, all I had to do was barely brush up against a broadband truck, and my truck would get lag-slapped and be sent flying, while the hi-band truck kept going like nothing ever happened.

This also was the case with rumbles, and is the main reason I stopped playing online around 2001-2002.

When I first started playing online in 1999, there were far fewer broadband users, and it wasn't an issue.

In other words, if you are going to race or rumble online using dial-up, find other dial-up users to play against, else you may suffer the same frustrations.

Hehe well, that may have been the case with you, but I'm here to tell ya there are two guys we play with now (SLO_BIMMER and rustybadmudder) who are both dial-uppers, and they are tough on the tracks (racing/rumbling). In RnR they make an extremely tough tandem - very hard to stop because of the lag they're pushing. SLO_PaPa, on the other hand (cable) flys across the tracks like a rag-doll lol, as does SLO_CLC (also cable).

RIPs_DirtyRacer and Boom were also dial-up users, and they were one of the toughest teams to beat in RnR partly because of their lag. Rustybadder plows thru people, and I mean everyone, to include cable/dsl users if you're not mindful of when/where you try to attack him.

So come on out, jcik. There are still some dial-up players out here who are having big fun, bud. Trust me, you'll enjoy it. ;)

Yeah Copes right.. you should give it another shot someday BD. I've raced with dial up since day one and it seems fine to me even with the majority of todays racers packing broadband... i even use the keyboard and still manage to win a few races. Shadow Princess puts on some great tournaments and I'm sure the SLO events are a blast as well, although i've yet to crash one of those... someday soon I will... even if I get picked last like the fat ugly kid in school lol
