You didn't need to start a new topic for this, we could have continued in the one you already had going.

Anyway.....

What kind of router do you have?

Half way down this page

http://mtm2.com/~mtmg/zone.shtml

is a trouble shooting section. You will be interested in steps 3 and 4.1 of the trouble shooting part. It shows you how to configure a linksys router. If you have a different kind, you will have to adapt that information to your own router. This is why I explained before you might like to get the help of the person who set up your computer. They should have a good idea already about what you have and how to set it up. Unless somebody around here has exactly the same kind of router you have, then the best we can do is guess what your configuration is. The problem you're having is in the router. That much we know. How to configure it is another matter entirely.

You have to give people a chance to respond to your first questions before you ask more, lol.

Do you have cable or dsl? Or do you have a 56k modem? You haven't told us very much. Is the modem built into the computer or does it sit on top of your computer table? Is there only one computer in your house, or is there more than one. Are they networked together, and if so, how?

Right. Where ever they are connected, that's what we're concerned with. The settings are not in the control panel, they are in the place where the computers are networked together.

Have you asked them if they would help? You never know what they might say. They might even surprise you. If it would help, have them come take a look at some of the topics you've made here, and the responses you've gotten. Also show them the zone page I linked you to. There is a lot of information available and it may help them decide whether to configure things for you. But either way, don't be afraid of your parents. Give them a fair chance and you never know what might happen.

my parents are scary sometimes. ill ask my step dad but not my mom. but, what i said about the cable connected to my wall does that mean anything? i didnt know if u had to unconnect the cable and put it somewhere else on the computer? if i cant get this figured out soon, ill half to quite the leagues i joined. it kills me to say that, but every fun race i do with someone, they half to go back and get me sometimes twice. ill just slow everyone done and i dont want that. i want everyone to have a fun race with me no stopping that. i dont want to think wrong thoughts but its true.

>> the cable connected to my wall

Doesn't mean a thing, sorry.

Anyway, give your folks half a chance. And if you ask and they say no, don't be afraid to wait a day and then ask again. Just let them know how important it is to you. No tantrums, no begging. Just be straight with them. Maybe you're right and it won't help. But I know one thing, it won't happen if you don't try. And sometimes you have to ask more than once. Just be cool with it, and try to stay determined. Like you say, it's for fun. Let your folks know that too.

There you go. Let's be optimistic and keep good thoughts with us. It's not that hard to do, but you do need to know what you're doing or it won't work.

No, it is probably not best to leave it set up as DMZ host when you are finished playing. There are two things you can do to make this easier. One is that your father can make two shortcuts on your desktop. One to turn DMZ on, and another one to turn it back off. Then you would be able to click between each one. The other thing he can do is to set up the router to use "port forwarding" instead of DMZ. The ports you need are listed on that page too. If you use "port forwarding" you can set it up and then leave it that way.
