Ye olde screenshots! These are the ones from that book I remember. The first 4 are from the GBA game, but the rest are MTM 1 pre-licensed trucks:

http://www.simracingworld.com/screenshots/189/

Note the names of the trucks in the Drag screen (which is changed itself):

Snake Bite
The Death Mobile
The Crusher
USA Crusher
Bigel Bomber

The first cockpit, and the Idiana State Fairgrounds drag with a different sky
Image
hmm the fist drag screen : Garage, ???, GO! Wow this is a very old version, Where's the Fly-By button?
Image
Those trucks looks familiar... and that track too. Look at the road texture, made with rocks.
Image
the finish line is made with groundboxes?

That track with the train looks like an early version of Arizona. The last shot uses the same textures, and is clearly unfinished or never released.

When I played MTM1 I got that sky with the Indiana State Fairgrounds. All I did was turn the horizon off... I do that in MTM2 as well because in my opinion the lovely gradient just looks nicer! :D

A Flyby button was likely to fly you over the track quickly to see what it's going to be like. This is seriously an awesome find. I found something very similar in an old game Warcraft II back in the day when I was using a special program to open and extract files from compressed items. Anyway seems like a lot of older games had a hint of their past before coming to the official game.

This pics are from the MTM1 promo video, that we can found in the MTM1 cd.

Hmm Looks at those wheels

Image
That's a cool garage ;-)

Image
The Hillclimb Drag..

Image
Another Indiana State Fairg drag pic, Power Wheels & Bigfoot

Image
Image
Image
Look at the truck list : Bigfoot, Carolina Crusher, Monster Patrol again & again. On the comp. trucks of the circuit screen theres a truck called Truck of Der...???

Image
An orange carolina crusher...

Image
The old, unfinished cockpit, again.

Image
This dialog was found in MONSTER.EXE

Image
More Truck Editor stuff (string table) found in MONSTER.EXE

Image
That is not a dialog, is a String Table from MONSTER.EXE. Hmmmm.

Now we only need to call mark randel and tell him to release the beta of MTM1! Or maybe Chuck could help us too LOL

oh btw i'm releasing a bunch of fixes for mtm1 :
-Sky Palette (EARTHSKY.ACT), to make it look like MTM2 sky palette (cloud pal)
-Tire Texture (GEOFAC2.RAW), now looks like MTM2 tires.
-PUFF textures, fixed for Hardware Acceleration graphics
I dunno if someone has done this before. So here is it:

Even more curious about that Carolina Crusher pic..."Camel Monster Trucks" on the windshield, which the truck did actually have for a while, but it'd have been long gone before MTM was ever made...

Great finds, I've always enjoyed MTM1. As cheesy as the graphics were, the tracks had way more personality to them.

I could be wrong but I doubt the Metal Crush beta will ever see the light of day, I'm sure Microsoft would have a problem with it's release.

Microsoft wouldn't even care. Microsoft old private betas/previews are always leaked.

Besides, Metal Crush/HMT isn't propriety of Microsoft, i think.

Yeah, only TRI can help us. We must demmand (at least) the beta. I think MetalCrush/HMT is too old, i dunno if they have a copy of that game.

Hopefully they do have a copy of it. Isn't there someone on here that was working at TRI when MTM/HMT/MC was made?

PS: Does Mark Randel know about this site? Just curious.

No company will 'officially' release a beta version of their program/game. Beta versions are done to track bugs and errors. They correct those things because they make the company look bad. Why on earth would they release something like that?

Of course.

They actually do. Obviously, Microsoft would never realease any private beta, but we're talking about TRI.

3D Realms did release a very buggy early beta version of Duke Nukem 3D once, called lameduke in gratefulness to they loyal fans.

I was quoting to you the explanation given to me by the lead programmer of evo and mtm. TRI does not want to release beta programs, and in the past they have actively sought to shut down sites that posted them for download. If they've changed their policy I haven't heard about it.
