There are some people here who beat records I've never come close to and I wonder what kind of control they are using. I think it'll make a difference whether you use a joystick or a steering wheel.
So, what do you use?

Joystick mostly, sometimes just the keyboard. I've heard a wheel helps but wouldn't know because I never used one. I drive like a turtle.

Hiya, Emma :-)

I use the keyboard, though my e-mail friends might argue with that. Image I've driven that way since day one, automatic transmission too (no, don't ask me to a race). I've been wondering what it would be like to steer a real car with arrow keys....

I've used the same joystick for about two years now. MS Sidewinder. Only problem is it's incompatable with Win2000 so I have to use Win98 to play MTM2.

I've been on a old logitech wingman interceptor. I guess it's as good as a wheel if you know how to use it. The main difference is Cope change his wheels every few weeks (ok maybe months) and i've used the same stick for 3 years and it still working nice.

Still think what really make the difference is the practice we put into those tracks. Many would call us crazy lol and they're right. But from extensive practice, you can really shave serious time. I've been playing for several years now and let me tell ya that on some of those tracks, i've lowered the scores so far beyoung what i first tot it was possible to do that your reaction dont really surprise me. I've been there too trust me on this. Learning how to take or avoid this little bump here, that little hole there entering the curve smoother there etc.. try to do so with a line as smooth as possible and you'll see score going down. When you think it cant go any faster, play it another 20 hours and it will go down another few seconds. Help yourself with replays. with them, you can take the time to look closely in different views at how you did and find smoother ways to do it.

With even more practice you'll gain experience and with that, time will go down faster without putting 20 hours. Each track is a new thing. You'll have to do all of it all over again. hehehe good luck and have fun

I, personally, ALWAYS use my keyboard.

For straightaways that go downhill only I use no controls :P
