I usually play without music in the background so I can hear other trucks coming up behind me. But the MAIN reason is because the durned pre-race music is so loud and repetitive. It just drives me NUTSO!

I make sure to assign appropriate stock music to all my tracks, because I know there are some people who use it. But I only recently began looking into adding custom music while broadening my horizons for the Expo.

I found out how to use music in the game while getting rid of the music on the pre-race screens. Lotsa good music info is available right here at the MTMG. I thought I'd post my info here so that the "general public" could benefit from my research, and not just the track makers and program tinkerers who go out of their way to find ways to push the game to its limits.

Step-by-step instructions can be found at: http://www.gameroom.com/clawfford/modifications.html#RemovePreRaceMusic

Yes, I've noticed it can seem loud. You've got no errors or other problems when the game can't find the splash.wav?

Note: It is possible to make a track using the pre-race screen music in the background. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would want to do this, but our change will take that music out as well.

There are several, including Alpine's Certifiably Crazy. I think it's much different in a race than at driver check-in... but maybe you have to be a minimalist fan.

Not so far. I guess that's because it shouldn't even search for SPLASH.WAV if it's not in the LST file. I've run several tracks just to test a variety. No errors yet!

(At first I just removed SPLASH.KLP and SPLASH.WAV from the LST file, but I still had the pre-race music for some reason. It only went away when I physically removed the files from my SOUND folder as well.)

I see no reason why you couldn't rename your favorite WAV file "SPLASH.WAV" and replace the stock file in your SOUND folder.

At the very least models art sound and music. I don't know if it'll read the data folder or not.

Thanks Clawfford, your instructions are very clear. I have always left the race music off because of the distraction of the pre-race music, kind of like the way I need to turn off the radio in my car when I am lost and trying to read street signs.

Yeah, Phin, - I was just thinking 'Hey I used that music in at least a track or two!' I was a die-hard fan of that tune and it really got me pumped up and race-ready when I heard it. :)
