The unabridged story, hmm...

In the year 2000 Kdawg said: "I just got a thought for a contest. After looking at Malibu's Screen Shots page I got the idea."

In the year 2000 Winterkill said: "I have had a contest idea... [which] ....dawned on me while racing a straight section On Malibu's Rock Ridge Revisited"

The unspoken truth... Mal was to blame for the whole thing!

lol @ the FilaMonster...

I've been away on a concrete camping trip for the last week so i haven't had too much thought on this other than obviously a contest of some sort is long overdue imo

>>>>Personally i also like this but i don't think there are that many creators left out there

i hear ya but with some incentives in the way of prizes perhaps we can coax a few out of retirement or semi-retirement, To the victor go the spoils, wink wink nudge nudge... or also like WK says "who cares" it's all for fun anyway, we have nothing to loose even if only a couple give it a shot.

a free for all, anything goes theme sounds great and twtg imho ok :o)

catagories...

Tracks: Racing & Drag

Trucks: Custom & Replica

Props: top crush & static

??? just ideas/incoherently thinking outload here... maybe even spread the three catagories deadlines throughout the year starting with props in may, then trucks in august and ending with tracks in november so the previuos prop entries can be used and trucks raced in the track entries, it also gives all an oppertunity to enter in each of the three...

this would take two sets of judges for the first two catagories... and then there's always the rules to be worked out/in.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ack! you make it too hard and too much work. I don't have all the answers yet but fer sure the simpler and more straight forward the better. Allow me to, er, vociferate. A free for all (see the bellmoro review) is a nice idea but we do that every day, even without a contest/expo. I won't say a replica is out of the question, but more disputes arise over replicas than almost anything else in the game. Before I jump into the snake pit, I think we'd have to establish a very clear understanding from the get go. Without it, it's a can of worms I don't think we should touch. I do like the idea of including trucks this time, tho. If we run tracks and truck parallel (rook & pro), we'd be looking at a mdmre first time repaint and something more elaborate, whether rep or custom. Bonus points for an mtm2.com/rhinoseros.com effort, lol.

Welcome back, Mr. 350, we've been waiting for you.

I think we can now safely say we're going to do this thing.

Track & Track Expo 2003

was that a freudian typo? J

i would not object to just a simple trAxpo myself and am not about to push for more than that since you usualy end up with the bulk of the organizing headache... my post above were just preliminary thoughts, just edit out the ones ya don't like :o)

> was that a freudian typo?

Nope, my freudians don't slip (much ;-). At the time, I was thinking the traxx school would be part A, and a thematic track would be part B. I was making the templates and needed a title, so that won the day. But the general impression seems to be they/tracks should be combined for the one half and we should lean on trucks in some way for the second half. I like the idea on principle but haven't convinced myself of how it should be structured.

As for the work, even tho it's been a while, I'm practiced now. The pages follow the same format as before, and I'll work up scripts that utilitize what we already have in place. The grunt work is done. Overall, it will be relatively easy to make work. (the new menu will be much harder than this).

A few extra notes.

The reviews/write up routine (which took a lot of my time) may change depending on cope's degree of involvement. I say "may" because the last time we tried a change it didn't work out, and we shouldn't depend on/impose on anybody without first hearing from him/her/cope.

Having a set start date might seem odd, but what it will do is allow makers to get used to the idea (gives time to think about what they want to do), it will force us to have rules fairly well set by that time, and the door can open for uploading/submitting from that point onward. It's a minor detail but it should help us/everybody.

> ... my post above were just preliminary thoughts

No apologies. All thoughts are valid when we're looking ideas. So it's all good.

Did I say theme? I'll expand on that idea within the next couple days.

I'm in all the way - just let me know what ya need me to do.

As for additional ideas, I'm really stagnated for now. Having never done one of these babies I'm more inclined to simply offer any help I can, blurt out anything that comes to mind that may be of some use, and just enjoy the ride.

Well, I'm out of here for now - going swimming (again) with the youngsters. I'll begin looking over more of the notes from the previous expo to get more of a feel for what's to come. Image

*Good to have ya back, Mal!

By george, I think we've got it.

And, great to hear, Cope. Don't worry about roles or jobs yet. We're very open ended but talk things into the ground. We've set ourselves plenty of time so there should be no major obstacles (famous last words, eh?). For now, my next task is to draft a page explaining what in the world I mean by a theme, lol.

. . . and for those who are totally er well you know for those who don't/can't/won't make anything whatsoever, I think I might work up a scavenger hunt. And I'd say we'd have a tourney with a couple of the best tracks but since I'm not exactly the tourneyman.... we'll have to see what we can come up with for that sort of thing.

Well since Cope agrees to be on the team... i'd better pack my bags and run in Tibet where they don't have any kind of communication with the outside world. Just a preventive measure.

The choice of theme is up to the maker

So... if i want to do a Simpsons track i do a Simpsons track.... full yellow bla bla. Or if i want to do an autumn track, something like the one in Evo 2 (example) then it's an acceptable theme? Since it's all a little brownish and bla bla..... ?

Yes, Fila, those things would be fine. How well they turn out, of course, would be up to you.

Yes, RF, after some thought and talk it was concluded most trucks, unless they are just a plain paint job, usually already have a theme in one way or another, and even if they didn't, trying to impose one is of little consequence. Still, an event like this needs some common ground, as well as a challenge (can't raise the standard without one) so scratch-built was finally landed on.

I still plan to post a couple notes about themes and possibly scratch built ideas. I wanted to have it done already but had some offline distractions, and got preoccupied with the countdown clock, lol. Anyway, when that's done, things should be a lot clearer for those who still aren't sure of things. After that if anybody is still befuddled at least there'll be a reference for futher comments and questions.
