I would appreciate any interested users thoughts and ideas for the proposal of a new monster truck game, (this is not a hoax).
I realise you've probably been through all this before, but the best way to have an idea of what to include in a proposal is to get it straight from the fans.
Unfortunately, I cannot supply any developer or publisher details, but I will be checking this forum daily and making notes of all relevant ideas put forward.

1. What improvements would you like to see over any current Monster Truck game, and why?

2. What new features would you like to see, and why?

3. What modes of gameplay would you like to see? eg: career modes, upgrading, advanced set-up options etc.

Oh man, no way... I hope this isn't a hoax... it seems too good to be true! Image

Here's my ideas anyway... I could write a small encyclopedia, but I'll try to keep it down a bit =)

Here are some improvements I'd like to see over MTM2:

-More Realistic Physics
-Better Graphics
-More Game Modes
-Better UI
-More Trucks
-Better Sense of Speed
-Realistic Damage(!)
-More that I'm too tired to think of at the moment.

-Game Modes:
-Capture the Flag
-King of the hill (rumble/demo derby if there's good damage)
-I think 1NSANE has a bunch of killer modes... they would all be awesome
-Drag Racing
-Random Checkpoint Racing
-Capture the Flag
-Trials (extremely difficult courses...slow speed over tough obsticles (like the jeep trials on tv))
-Soccer (corny, but oh well)

A definite must:
An editor that is as good as/better than TRAXX, and allows you to create every type of track that comes with the game, as well as trucks.

Set ups... Keep it simple... more racing, less tweaking... that's how I like it.

If you'd like me to expand on any of the topics above, just let me know. I just wanted to be sure that this is for real... plus i'm dead tired right now =)

You can email me at obeone@corpcomm.net. I would like to get in touch with you.

Drags and Freestyle. And crushable cars. And truck editing, just in case real trucks aren't included, we can put them in.
But keep rallies and circuits, they are fun, and are a cool what if (since MTs don't run those races).

Trucks that are editable like in mtm 1&2, drag racing, more realistic damage (fenders flying, wheels flying off on hard landings...)

Oh, make a arcade and simulation mode so you can please both the hardcore monster truck fans and the not so hardcore fans...

Freestyle would be cool too.

I like the idea of a career mode. Something like in Dirt Track Racing would be really cool... where you could gain sponsors and stuff. I don't like the idea of buying upgrades though... I don't think it would fit too good in a monster truck game. But I think DTR has the best career mode I've seen... with the different events to enter, etc. But don't play for money, play for fame ;-)

Also, have the trucks get dirty when they hit a mud puddle, roll, etc. I also like the real-time damage in Insane (take a look at a replay in super slow-mo... If you look carefully, the truck body bends and flexes whenever it hits something... VERY cool).

Anyway, that's all for now...

Just thought of this one... why not let us make our own game modes (mods), like in Unreal Tournament? I think that would be an awesome advance in racing games ;-)

I'd like to see more of a Sim game rather then another arcade racer.

Physics that allow trucks to go tumbling.

Trucks that break. Lets see some tires go flat or fly off. Bodies breaking apart/off would be cool to.

Cars that crush. Differently at times. Hit them wrong & they make the lane worse for the rest of the event.

Actual events. I know the real ones don't do it to much anymore but lets get pulling & Hill climbs in as events. Mud bogs & a "floating across the water" race could be cool to.

Career mode. It would be nice to have points tracked for a career.

Security for online cheaters. There has to be a way to get it to work.

Since only 2 real trucks race at a time, why not have events that could have 20 or so trucks entered in them? Like a built in ladder system.

Keep this in mind while developing the game. Monster Trucks are not wrestlers nor Baja racers.

Hay its me again..Bandy!! Ok Here are some more ideas for monster truck madness 3!!
I hope u guys make it and u release it soon!

Car-Crushing
Moving Fans
Different HorsePower For trucks(career mode)
Halftime Shows
Motor-Bike STUNTS
Tuff trucks
Pro Arena trucks
AWsome AIRTIME
Trucks(look very real--inside--dashboard--seat--steering wheel---DRIVER---)
Also in Damage---Make Wheels come off--
Fly off---Flat tires---Keep damage button
like in mtm2..turn off and on
Loud Sound Affects for trucks when they ROAR!! (engines)

Like i said...I will be thinking of more soon!!!

Destrustion Derby style damage- conks out after too many crunches, Bits flying off of trucks- bonnets fly off, Chained rumbles- fronts of trucks are chained together, A reason for one player racing- work your way up (i mean, MTM has less types of game in one player than the original Micro Machines!).
An 'in game' editor for trucks and tracks would be cool too!

Fuel that goes down- pit stops
Fans by the road- drive at them and they run (like in crazy taxi)
No more 2D trees- PCs can handle it nowadays and, face it, the 2D trees look really crud.

Here's something not covered: Good collision detection. The 'boxed in' models of MTM2 and 4x4 Evo pretty much suck. I don't see why you couldn't just set up some scrape points for models when you create them.

Things that need to be implimented into a new monster truck game are as follows:

All current trucks: A must in any monster truck game

Drag Racing: This is where MTM2 strayed from the true meaning of the sport. Although we have come a long way since the start of making drag tracks, we still have no way to make a drag "truely work". The drags would need a staging system, much like that of Bethseda's drag racing games. Also, they would need support for Chicago Style drag racing. As of now, a clocked chase race is impossible.

Better physics, graphics, damage model: Face it, MTM2's sucks. There is no way a monster truck could go into a turn at 80+ mph and not flip over. Although graphics were fair in MTM2, a graphics engine like the one being used in NASCAR Racing 4 would be most accepted. It allows for as high a graphics setting as your display settings allow. As for the damage, fender's that crumple and roof's that collapse doesn't cut it. Instead, the fenders should shear of of the truck and the roof should rip of revealing the cab and such. Tires and engines should blow, wheels and shocks should break, as should driveshaft u-joints.

Simulation and arcade mode: Simluation mode should include a full garage, including motor setups, shocks, etc. Again, much like that of Bethseda's drag racing games. But pre-made setups should be included. As for arcade mode, leave it as MTM2 has it. Career modes should be available for both.

Other upgrades: Current MTM2 driving aids should remain, with the addition of one. Independant rear-steer is very commonly used in the monster truck world, so why not have it. Also, transmission brakes should be added as an option to the simulation mode. Some drivers use them, some drivers don't, but they're still there. With the independant rear-steer should be the ability to do donuts. Although it may be possible in MTM2 (with a very short wheel-base), it's still unrealistic. Power wheelies should be added as well, but should be programmed in such a way that you have to do it just right or the front wheels won't lift off the ground. Crushable cars, unlike that of which we have, should be added. Crushable roofs, hoods, trunks, fenders, etc. should be used as well as shattering glass, and even parts that come off after a while of abuse.

Multiplayer: A ladder system would be preferred but only the trucks in the current race are allowed on the track. Once again, much like Bethseda's drag racing games. Multiple trucks on the track tends to cause a large amount of lag. In addition, a judge would not have to be used to determine the winner. An in-game ladder is a series owner's dream. That way, competitors can work on their setups when not racing, and the computer determines the winner.

As for freestyle: There is no way an AI judge can give you a realistic score for your entire freestyle. The only way it could be done is the way that MCM and MCM2 are scored by each stunt done.

In a summary, for the simulation and drag racing aspect, model it after the Bethseda games. For the arcade aspect, keep it just as it is. Most circuit racers and rumblers I know are quite pleased with the current game.

Also should have diferences in center and driverside seating when shown in an outside veiw + that unbreakable glass stuff at the bottom of the truck that is used to see out of the truck.

I would like to thank everyone for posting their ideas, lots of good info.
I suspect most of you are hard core Monster Truck fans and would be interested in the simulation side (rather than arcade) aspect of a Monster Truck game.
We want to propose a game that incorporates both, to satisfy casual gamers and players such as RuddRulez (who obviously wants an in-depth simulation and knows his stuff).
Keep the ideas coming, and if you can think of any whacky multi-player game modes that would be fun, please post them.
Thanks,
CW

Yep, I think it should be a good balance between realism and arcade(ism?). I think the best balance between realism and arcade racing in an offroad type game so far has to be 1NSANE. The trucks break, wheels fall off, there's real-time damage, tons of rollovers, yet your truck isn't destroyed every 10 seconds. I love the rollover, repair and damage features in it. It allows you to bash up your truck and have the damage as real as you want (realism) but allows you to quickly fix it with a small penalty delay (arcade).

I personally don't like the 'auto-flip-you-back-over-when-you-land-on-your-roof" feature in MTM2, MTM1, and 4x4 Evo. I like having to do it manually.

Along the physics line, make realistic rollovers, cartwheels, and have the trucks bounce when they land off a jump, not just stick to the ground like glue. And PLEASE include some realistic damage. You don't have to go so far as flat tires, but at least let all the parts fall off and get distorted (fenders, bodies, wheels, axles, etc). Also, have the driver realistically reactic to the G-Forces within the truck. 1NSANE does this farely well, although the driver likes to stick body parts through the solid parts of the vehicles, which looks a little odd ;-)

Editors are also VERY important. Track making to me, is just as fun as playing the game. Users need to be able edit every aspect of all the track/truck types in the game. Custom textures, models, etc. However, don't have different speeds for the trucks, and make sure that that can't be edited. I love in MTM1/2 how all the trucks have equal power, just slightly different handling. That makes for much better racing than something like in EVO where, even if you have the best stock truck you can get (and worked dang hard for it) you will still get whipped by the 500mph customs that people have. MTM2 has this nailed.

The game also needs a good UI. I love in MTM2 how you can access all the options and screen from anywhere in the game, including during a race. This is very handy. I also like the in-game calibration for joysticks and wheels.

Ok, game modes... these are some that I think would be cool (I know I'm repeating some).

-Capture The Flag
-King of the Hill
-Something like "destruction mode" in Insane
-Drags
-Trials
-Random Checkpoint Racing
-Rollover Contests (would require realistic physics)
-Destruction Derby (Once your truck is "dead*" you're out. Score points for damaging** opponnents)
-Watch a Game in Progress
-Soccer
-Jump Contests
-Freestyle (would be a wonderfully realistic mode, but not sure how scoring would work)
-Free Roam (no limits, laps, etc.)
-Last Man Standing (ram into opponnents trying to roll them over. Once you tip off of your wheels, you're out)
-Cops N Robbers
-Checkpoint Racing (like in MTM2)
-Baja Racing (checkpoints randomly scattered across a large terrain... like Jamboree in Insane)

It would also be nice if the AI was 'smart' enough to participate in all modes... thus allowing every game mode to be played offline.

*By 'dead' I mean when the truck is no longer able to move. For example, losing all it's wheels, too damaged to be driven, etc.

**I don't think there should be any type of engine damage that would slow the truck down. It would be realistic, but not fun IMO.

I also don't think that independant rear steering would be a good idea either. Yes it would be realistic, but just think if you were using the keyboard. Even on a wheel it would be tough, because you'd have to map more buttons.

Letting us drive wherever we want is probably a given, but it must be included. I HATE being limited to just the track... even MCM/MCM2 not allowing you to leave the track for more than 3 seconds sucked.

Another interesting game mode that might be cool, is racing on water. Not [i]in[/] water, but on it. If you've ever seen those water trycicles with the big plastic yellow paddled wheels, it would be something like that. Your tires would float on the water and be paddle driven. It might suck, but I'm just trying to throw some ideas out there.

That's all for now... if I think of anything else, I'll add it.
