Post subject: How to place fixall.pod always on top
PostPosted: Tue May 23, 2000 2:44 pm
Hi,

Don't you guys hate it, when you use some util to make a pod.ini, fixall.pod always ends up somewhere else but the top.

Here's something I did a while ago to make sure it always works, how? very simple....

when playin a little with podmate I decided to try someting new. I merged fixall.pod and startup.pod together (first the fixall) and guess what, It works. Now i never have to open notepad to manualy place the fixall.pod at the very top.

also I made a file called stock.pod wich contains al the stock files, this also saves some megs for al you PPL who havent got 80gigs like me;-).

Just some tips.....

OOPS (tm) forgot to mention, the merged pod that contains both fixall.pod & startup.pod should be nemed startup.pod. Be sure to make a backup of the original file though.

Hmmm thats a good way to do it. Ive just been renaming the fixall to !1a.pod and that keeps it up there and doesnt seem to cause any conflict with others online. Im going to try it your way though..thanks

Isn't Podulator the only podding program that shuffles the pod order? I've been using podit, and after the first time I put fixall at the top, I never have to worry about it again.

However, merging the game pods is a good way to sqeeze every last bit of space out of the pod.ini limits.

Ok, on merging these game pods..which can be merged? When you say "merging all the stock files" do you mean tracks or all pods? Since the merging of the Startup and Fixall pods was mention seperately from the merging of stock pods Im assuming that track pods and pods such as main and sound etc should not be merged? Heres the list of game pods :

Alaska.pod
Aztec.pod
Baja.pod
Cockpit.pod
Crazy98.pod
Junk.pod
Main.pod
Music.pod
Outback.pod
Rockqry.pod
Snake.pod
Sound.pod
Startup.pod
Summit1-3.pod
Tpark.pod
Truck2.pod
ui.pod

Podit's the best i've seen so far, the one thing i like the most is the alphbetical list it keeps of the unpodded pods on the right side, its handy when you need to delete some pods from the mtm folder.

Hi solardog!
I meant the track pods ;-)

but all pods might work to, it's just not very practical IMO, I merged all the tracks so I only have to check the one pod if someone made a zipped pod.......

I still work with PODX BTW, I know, only 35 pods. On the other hand it still is the ONLY util that allows me to work from 2 directorys as far as I know. I've got a lot of CD's here filled with pods wich makes it the best tool for me, to bad GB didn't make an update that allows more tracks/or directorys. for me it's the util that is the most user friendly....

SolarDog,

You racing online or off? If offline, then merge everything you want. If online, then don't merge tracks or you'll get the dreaded different version message.

Go ahead and merge these, you shouldn't have a problem

DogsCheckin.pod
Fixall.pod
mtm1tomtm2.pod < -- wk's
Cockpit.pod
Music.pod
Sound.pod
Startup.pod
Truck2.pod
ui.pod

Tracks should not be merged if you race online.

Alaska.pod
Aztec.pod
Baja.pod
Crazy98.pod
Junk.pod
Main.pod
Outback.pod
Rockqry.pod
Snake.pod
Tpark.pod

Do you rumble? if not, then merging these will save two pod spots.

Summit1-3.pod

Lastly, if you totally screw everything up, no worry, just delete them all and copy the pods from the cd to your mtm folder. Don't forget to back up your own pods tho.

It seems to me that you guys that use podit, don't yet know how great it really is Image. All you have to do to rearrange podded pods in podit (too many 'pod's!) is click on it and drag it wherever you want. So if something does get out of order, all you have to do is drag it back to where it belongs. I use this feature to sort out all my tracks so I can easily find the one I want in the game Image. It works exactly the same as dragging around your IE favorites.

Hope this helps Image

When you pod-zip a pod you get "different version" when racing online. I like using the pod-zip utility.

You should not modify another person's truck if you are going to race online. That can be considered cheating.

Everyone should have the exact same file (truck). If you made it yourself, then you could PODZIP it and then distribute copies to the people you will complete against, but don't modify and distribute some other author's truck, unless you get permission from the author first.

It's been a while since I played mtm2, but I still use podini.exe to enter the track pod names in my pod.ini file.... should I be using something else?

We been using podit or podini2 along with the mtmstarter to manage track lists. Or CH podswap. You can find those under utilities at www.teamslo.com

Ultra login work very well to login easily into the zone without spending 1/2 hours clicking here and there. Make sure you read the read me or tutorials if you're not to familiar with those.
