Ok. I have some sad news. I have a PC virus. It slows my PC down immensely. Laggy web pages, MTM2 loading about x5 slower, and GIF files are laggy. We can't afford another PC right now.

I don't even know where it is on my PC. Is there any way I can get rid of it? Please reply. I'm begging.

cownap.com home page lists a free antivirus program here:

Hope this can help you.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Download and CHECK FOR UPDATES before running the full scan. Once the scan is complete you'll get a message to view and remove the effected problems.

That is the most recommended virus remover, but be sure to run a virus scan as well if that doesn't work.

Used to be "Once in a blue moon" that my PC would load. The keyboard wouldn't even work! Now it loads like a charm. It's just really slow.

I have to say, I used White's method. Thanks dude. I had over 150 infections on my PC. I only used quick scan though, and I don't know if I want to do a full scan because it took about 2 hours for the quick scan. I had about 100 Trojan viruses. Thanks alot. Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware Software is my PC's savior.

Yes your dad of course [(-:]

I would strongly recommend the full scan before you go to bed or before a looong coffee break to make sure there isn't a hidden virus that's working as the mother of all the ones you removed. They could come right back if you don't fully remove all traces of it.

Haha

I'm glad you could remove all the malware but i would strongly recommend to your dad to get a girlfriend (or boyfriend, who knows [(-:] ) and stop watching those kind of sites, lol. Trust me, it's waaay better. [(-:]

And.. pron sites? You should be watching, not downloading, right? How pron sites work in these days?

If he's been to a lot of *beep* sites lately ... you better run a few other scanners as well, because Malwarebytes doesn't get everything.

Spybot Search & Destroy
Adaware
Bazooka Adware and Spyware Scanner

Get and run ALL of these. Let ALL of them do FULL scans. Yes, it will consume HOURS of time ... but in the end it's worth it.

Also, get yourself a decent anti-virus package. What you're using isn't doing the job (you are using anti-virus software, right?).

Oh, and Teknor, I had a Trial of McAfee Anti-Virus software, but it ran out 90 days after I got my PC in 2007, so I have been vulnerable. I have a Norton Anti-Virus program running now, and I think it's a 90 day trial. I haven't gotten anything since.

If the Norton is a trial version, I suggest you try out AVG Free (free anti-virus considered by many to be equal or better than Norton). It's very good and it is one-third the memory footprint of Norton.

Ok, after the trial, I'll try it out. Thanks guys! Anyway, my internet browser wouldn't load, literally. I tried double clicking it over and over and it still wouldn't show. It works now. :)

AVG sucks, Its a piece of crap, and it makes your PC more vulnerable.

I highly suggest Avast.

Avast is good indeed. So is AVG, but just like PC and Mac users have a trend to "despise each other" ... Avast users tend to talk down the AVG users and the AVG users will often do the same.

Truth is, both are good and both have their own weaknesses. The free versions of both are [u[anti-virus only[/u] and you should not expect them to provide firewall, anti-spam, or anti-pop-up. Use additional good programs to do that.
