Lookee here
experiment Just lately I've been trying out making terrain bitmaps using different texture files, copying them into the paint program, using different effects (blur, sharpen etc) and have come up with some very satisfying results. This one for instance:
<IMG SRC="http://emcee4.tripod.com/trxxterrain.gif" border=0>
I just opened one of the many background fill files (from CorelPaint - but there are hundreds in Windows and PSP, and thousands on the Net), messed around with effects, resized it to 256x256, converted it to 8-bit greyscale, then copied to the clipboard and in Traxx under Edit, Paste Terrain bitmap... easy peasy! It's just a matter of experimenting 'til you get the desired effect. You can't really tell what a bitmap is gonna look like as terrain until you paste it into Traxx and have a look, but obviously gradual transitions from black to white will give you a smoother landscape.
Hope this helps or gives you some ideas AW... BTW you can use the example above if you like.
edit: I just noticed that you contributed to the original topic so you probably know all this stuff already.. no harm in refreshing one's memory tho' huh?
edit2: "I beleive the bit map is something to start off" - yup, can't avoid editing to make something perfect.
