Just something I've been wondering about for a while. What are the songs on the MTM1 CD based on, and what are they called?

Track 1 - ?????????
Track 2 - Similar style to Joe Satriani, especially Surfing with the Alien and Crushing Day, not specifically based on either of those though.
Track 3 - Again, sounds like Satriani. I've heard it used on a bike racing review tape and several TV adverts so presumably it was released on CD and has a name.
Track 4 - ?????????
Track 5 - ?????????
Track 6 - ?????????
Track 7 - ?????????
Track 8 - Main riff is a more complex version of C.W., which was written and played by bassist Kyle Brock, who often played alongside Eric Johnson. The MTM1 version has a lot more backing noise and is played in a higher key.
Track 9 - ?????????
Track 10 - ?????????
Track 11 - ?????????
Track 12 - ?????????

As you can see, I know very little about the songs, so any help would be appreciated. It'd be nice just to identify some of them.

It wouldn't be anything by the original artists. Either it was made in house (that's a good bet), or it's "stock" or "production" music, which is music made by studio musicians and is then available at lower cost to media, production, game, etc. companies. Most of the time, they will make songs which approximate popular artists. Live Nation uses FirstCom (http://www.firstcom.com) for the Monster Jam videos, and there's definate resemblances (Search FirstCom's site for "I'm Popular", the intro sounds remarkably like Dave Matthews Band's "I Did It").

I know a list existed of either MTM2 or MTM1's CD tracks and the songs were all given names, but I don't know where it could be now. I'm also now missing my 4x4 Evo 1 CD since it had a bunch of good music on it, including a kickass remix of the MTM1 theme.

Yeah, even if there's a very obvious source for the song it's not going to be the original version. CW is a pure bass song, very different to the MTM1 song in every way except the riff.

I think MTM2 soundtrack is better. In fact, it is a masterpiece of modern rock. with Heavy metal (c98) thrash metal/industrial (track 6) punkrock/hardcore (breakneck) and some southern rock (junkyard) Trival on voodoo island.

I always preferred the main theme to MTM1 to that cheesy remake of it for MTM2.

Main Theme in MTM1 is purely thrash metal, yeah it's better than the industrial/thrash version of MTM2, but MTM2 soundtrack is better than MTM1.

MTM1
Track 1 - data track!
Track 2 - heavy metal [tu]
Track 3 - hard rock [tu]
Track 4 - intro.mod/grunge.mod/sex.mod (the intro music) thrash metal riffs [tu]
Track 5 - electronica? house?
Track 6 - ripped from Hellbender?
Track 7 - ripped from Terminal Velocity. (Level 1 Episodie 2, cant recall the planet...)
Track 8 - country rock? cowpunk?
Track 9 - hardcore punk [tu]
Track 10 - SoCal
Track 11 - soft hiphop/electronica
Track 12 - sounds like a base for the black eyed peas or something

MTM2

Track 1 - data track!
Track 2 - Farm Road, country rock/rockabilly
Track 3 - The Heights, heavy metal (by far the coolest song of MTM) [tu]
Track 4 - Graveyard, genre?
Track 5 - Junkyard, southern rock/sampled [tu]
Track 6 - MTM1 Intro teme, industrial/thrash metal [tu]
Track 7 - Sidewinder canyon, SoCal
Track 8 - Voodoo island, Trival
Track 9 - construction, synthpop
Track 10 - C98, Breakneck, punk with some heavy metal influences [tu]

> Track 3 - The Heights, heavy metal (by far the coolest song of MTM)

The coolest? I agree the cd is far better than in game but yucky-poo.

> Track 4 - Graveyard, genre?

Gothic. Especially like early horror movies which borrow from the late renaissance.

> Track 7 - Sidewinder canyon, SoCal

You mean surfer music?

> Track 8 - Voodoo island, Trival

Why trivial? It's jungle funk, no?

The thing I find noteworthy about mtm2 music is that it embellishes only a couple motifs but indulges many many different playing styles. The same can seldom be said for other games, or even other areas in life.

BAh, the old Formula 1 game had the best music eva!

It's ancient btw lol
http://trevorsarchives.selfip.net/download/Formula%201/

I think it was a 1996 or 1997 game. I owned it cause ATI had their own special version for ATI cards, that came with the card, back in 1997. the graphics were sweet, even by todays standards. Smooth playing too.

What means "yucky-poo"? Awesome heavy metal song?

>Gothic. Especially like early horror movies which borrow from the late renaissance.

Gothic music is rock/electronica music. Gothic rock, Deathrock, Horror punk, Darkwave, same thing happens with Emo music, it doesn't exists, it is hardcore music (emocore, screamo emoviolence...)

> You mean surfer music?

Yep. That surfer music is SoCal (Southern California) music. SoCal bands can be rocknroll, rockabilly, socal punkrock.

> Why trivial? It's jungle funk, no?

EDIT: Tribal. I never heard about "Jungle Funk" music, maybe you're right, altough i can't hear any funk music sound in that song.

8)

Yes.

We better not hear any folk themes coming out of SoCal then.

> I never heard about "Jungle Funk" music

I made that term up. It's a description; not a music category.
