I just browsed an abandonware website called Classic Gaming Network and found both Monster Truck Madness and Monster Truck madness 2 there, available to download as full versions. This is disgraceful and illegal, and these people are evil for disrespecting these excellent games. Do you think it's worth reporting it to Microsoft?

The concept of abandonware is an interesting one.

http://www.google.com/search?q=abandonware

Microsoft showed they are no longer interested in what happens to mtm when they closed the zone and refused further distribution either through retail sales or in software bundles. They are already aware it is available for download and to date have offered no opposition.

The only thing I wonder is whether that site is offering a proper download, and whether they are hosting the files themselves. It is one thing to host the full and proper version on their own site, but it is another matter entirely to offer partial or hacked games and/or link to other sites.

Yes... MTM/2 is getting harder and harder to get on a CD, so I suppose abandonware, if it is the full game, is an option. Plus, when all the MTM/2 CDs in the world are snapped up on eBay by guys/gals like us, people can still get the game. So I come to the conclusion that it's actually good, although that's just my opinion.

well, it is still technically illegal, but it is up to the copy right holders to actually do something about it, and face it, MS would just lose money trying to stop us from spreading the game. So they can't be bothered. Its a game where, if MS does anything, it will lose them money, so they just do nothing and let nature take its course.

That's exactly my point. If one can't find the game on eBay, go download it!

A game that is not published anymore (and no, not on eBay because that's trading stuff, not buying) should be downloaded freely.

should be but the world doesn't work that way, just because things are "unavailable" doesnt mean they are free.

I bought them off ebay a few years ago for as little as 99 cents each. I'd let 'em go for the cost of shipping.

The version of MTM on that site is no more than a demo, it does not contain any of the MTM tracks and is only 15 meg to download.
Also it does not run on XP sp2 machines (at least it does not run on mine!).

Download it!

Microsoft has proved over the past years they could not care less.

Well I registered, And I downloaded the MTM file and it was 15 meg, with no tracks or trucks! So there must be another one on site? :)

Download the file that Phin linked...

Then just use a program like NERO to burn that image to CD.

Wish I had enough room on my site to host my copy....
Mine is Zipped with Winzip so no need to burn to CDR.

Just unzip to C:\MTM2 and run setup.

If you already have MTM2, what is the advantage of having MTM? Is there a point? :?
