 Post subject: MTM comes to the World Gaming Center

Ok all gamers

Here it is... MTM2 at the World Gaming Center.

Our tournaments will run uninterrupted 204 Tailings 5pm EST 24th June.

log to www.wgcenter.com and register, you will need to download software for the WGC if this is your first time there or you have not been in since last update.

We have a room under the racing heading and we have rooms that can launch a number of players. To join a table, click one of the play buttons, when all 4 play buttons are used click on the watch button and join the room, the game will still launch you if the host can.

Thank you to the MTMers that helped with the hours of testing today, you know who you are, i wont list cause i may forget someone. My sincere gratitude to Knarf and Jeff Brown for getting this game up and running and thanks also to Alpine, Mumhra, Thunder, KC for answering questions i have asked. And to the World Gaming Center thank you from us all for a new home :)

Battle HQ looks good too.

This one uses directplay while the WGC uses IP.

I've heard rumors that Directplay has less lag.
Could also be because Battle HQ pauses when u are in game while WGC does.

WGC works on my win2k 466celeron. But mtm2 runs pretty slow. Cnat blame it on a 466 tho. This game was designed for a 166 after all :P lol.

:x :x :x World Gaming Software doesn't work for Win98 users.
Their forum is full of (unaddressed) complaints about that.
You can find some absurd hints like " set disk name to <empty>".


A pity that I can't participate to SPs tournaments anymore.

dang RA, that really is a bummer. I suggest you try to enter some trny's using IP games (you'll have to have msn messenger or something like that) and then just hope that they will work on it so people using win98 can join...

My hope with WGC, CH was that with a new 'front door' our game is once again getting new gamers interested and our game is once again growing, battle did not offer us that. Jeff the head of development at WGC is around anytime for us and will try anything to help our game. We only have to ask.

Thx have gone to many, and my personal thx also go to Phineus, for without his input and expertise when i needed it at the start, this game would never have got going there.

WGC DOES use direct play, now that our game is up and running direct play rooms are open. Tournament room has been up since the 2nd tournament. We have had many new faces now running our game and the older ones still around, and encouraging them.

All probs are being addressed as they arise, some take longer than others and while games are being added all the time there will be continual updates. The zone throwing many onto wgc before it was really ready for them, however they are moving ahead and the teams for development are growing. If any of you reading this wish to help on development and tech teams just yell. Many hands make light work.

Sorry RA that you are having problems. So far the tournaments are running smoothly with numbers greater than previously at the Zone. The game is alive again and growing. I for one am glad this game is continuing to thrive.

Ok; I don't really know how the zone would launch mtm2 games. Did it do the same monster.exe /j:x.x.x.x and monster.exe h/? I'm not really very experienced with networking and I didn't look into it when the zone existed. I really was just stating a rumor.

Who's the resident expert on MTM2 Networking? I'd imagine that all the clients (people who joined) send their location to the host and then the host forwards it to all the other clients again. This would be for a normal TCP/IP game where you manually put in the IP at the multiplayer screen. As far as I know this is identical to the /h and /j command line switches.
However, I thought I heard somewhere that the Zone provided a "DirectPlay" server that would do the location forwarding for everyone so the computer playing mtm2 designated "Host" wouldn't have the extra lag of forwarding all the trucl locations to the other players.

Course both might be done in a peer to peer method where each comp sends their location to the other 1-7 comps. I'd imagine this might be the fastest as the load is more evenly spread.

I really have no idea. But, I am tempted to investigate... where's my packet sniffer...


With what kind of development are you looking for help?

rocket, im surprise du could get on zone with windows 98, i couldnt, it was just always fail on the auto update. but I agree, its stupid WGC doesnt work ANYMORE on win 9x systems. it did before they made the upgrade for it to work lol. on my 95 i get SwitchToFibreAPI error all the time, ande eventually the chat flips upside down lol. Im sorry but third rule of program, "make sure your current features work before adding more". and of course fourth rules is "test every update as if its the first". which obviously they don't do. and lastly, the idea of putting every lobby in one exe is a big bad idea, it is not nessessary for a game launching pad to be 40 megs big in ram. but what do u expect, every lobby, every image, every board, everything is loaded into ram, then u just use a small part of it. I think the WGC programmers are inexperienced at this sort of large scale programming. but thats just my opinion. More than likely, when they get everything working, they will make a completely new far better version with their newly aquired experience.

It was a bit of work to get the zone running, but that was only until I realize IExplorer was required. With IE everything worked fine and I could even run ZoneAlarm (firewall software) at medium security setting.

Which brings me to the other thing I don't like at WGC: they are very unspecific about which ports are used for which purpose and simply "recommend" to switch off firewalls. In view of the unclear business model of the "Brownware" company (an adequate name at this point if you ask me, lol) , I would feel very uncomfortable doing that.

I wonder what CH_2005 will find out with his packet sniffer. I was prepared to perform a similar analysis, but since wgc-software is non-funcional at this point....

On my windows 95 i was stuck with IE5.5SP2 but on my 98 I had IE 6.0 And i still couldn't get on, or it was rare that it worked.

I could be wrong but WGC uses the command line switches /h and /j:ip to run the game. MTM2 will not use port information to do that. On the zone, port information was for the Zone manner of interaction rather than specific to the game.

I can understand not wanting to open up your system, but I've been gaming for 12 years now and never ever use a firewall and never been hacked nor am in fear of it, so I guess my perspective is biased.

The zone used direct play, same with battle hq, where as wgc uses tcp/ip and command lines. Hope that helps. tcp/ip is great because you can join in again :P
