As promised when i heard anything, this is the latest...
as of June 19th it seems no more zone as we know it.

Log into zone and then read from the link below. http://zone.msn.com/en/general/article/ ... hezone.htm

All tournaments will continue throughout May, i will email all racers of these tournaments with their choices soon if they wish to continue to play mtm2 tournaments.

BBC Radio recently broadcast a series entitled "Losing the Past" in which they talk about losing all record and trace of our culture and history over the past hundred years or so, and it's mostly due to the age of electronics and digital technology creating a mindset of disposable commodities. Info on the program can be found here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/atoz/index.shtml#l

MP3 and Real Audio versions can be downloaded here

A majority of the program dwells on printed media, but games are also mentioned - which ties directly into our situation here of late. Preserving history - ten strong years of it - is just one more reason the zone should not close the mtm2 game rooms.

It's not over yet, not by a long shot.

Phin, I don't know how much you do or don't know about this, but the plans, according to that link, are to close the Zone entirely, not just the MTM2 rooms. We live in an age where corporations will do just about anything outside holding a knife to our throats to force us to move on to something new, and more profitable to them. Hench the appearance of disposable commodities. Everything today, as we know it, is disposable. Computers, cars, games, everything. What business is there for a corporation if a person doesn't have to buy a new commodity. Granted some have lasted a hundred years under the "quality over quantity" ideology, but that is for the most part gone these days. Now corporations just want you to get their desired use out of the product, and move on to something new. It's all about putting cash in the pocket.

That may very well be, but when Bill Gates turns around and says he wishes he wasn't so rich then we have to point out how hypocritical his company is being when they continue to gouge us to death. Does he think we're stupid or something? And what's with the zone anyway? I mean, did you read that sob story about maintaining the site? Puhleeze. A few measely files and bandwidth that hardly registers compared to the site as a whole. What a bunch of lazy good-for-nothing slackers. They act like they personally rewrite the mtm code every two weeks. Oh brother! And! They say, there are sequels. We show them no there isn't. They say, nobody's playing it. We show them yes there are. They plan to shut it without telling anybody about it. We call them on it and so they post a little token note. We do everything to show they are being petty and centering us out, and they turn around and say they're shutting not just this but everything. Every time we prove their agruements false, they just change tactics. And it happens again and again every few months. And the pluses help us out, so now they fire the pluses too. Microsoft is a fraud, and everybody I've seen that works there is a liar. Every one, without fail. I am more fed up with Microsoft now than I've ever been before, and believe you me I've been plenty fed up before, but this time they're pushing it. If they don't continue to support this game, you can be darn well sure I will never buy an xbox or their buggy software and I'll make sure anybody I know never does either. I've paid my two bits to see the high diving act, and I'm a gonna see the high diving act... even if I have to make it a life long crusade just to do it. And that's the thing about this game, isn't it. You can play it, you can drag it, you can cnr, you can make tracks, you can make trucks, you can make programs for it, and if push comes to shove, you can hold it high aloft to show the world just what kind of scum suckers microsoft really are. And this is just the game to do it, too.

At the bottom of the page ShadowPrincess linked there are some new chat logs posted.

http://zone.msn.com/en/general/article/ ... ngchat.htm

There are two very revealing logs posted and at least one more coming soon. Although they are long I highly suggest reading them carefully, they are full of angry folks speaking freely and show the scale of the audience that Microsoft is alienating.

well i dont ever use the zone so i dont care if it closes. But my question to you is why are you fighting this so hard, when you can very easily just host and join a game without the zone. draggers do it all the time, and meth put out a great tutorial on how its done. unless some of you guys cant join by that and HAVE to use the zone.

In tose chat logs, it sems a lot of ppl tried to point out that they dont want new better versions, and want everything to be the same, but chats like that are pointless. MS has made up their mind and that's that. All the more reason sites like world gaming center should hurry up and finish because those sites will get the flux of players from zone.

example

Quote:
_MissTeach_> Hi All, Is it true that part of reason for losing + program and lobbies for classic games due to loss of PSI contracts, will new contracts been given out and lobbies return in some form?. Your customers/players are now looking at sites like worldgamescentre, gamedesire.com and clubgames to move to on the 19th June do you want to seriously lose such a large number to other sites?? I like everyone here is a people person don’t want to play as a Bot, we love the lobbies for one thing to be able to meet new people not just one at time. I enjoy playing some of us hosting and being with friends.!

+ZMaster@Zone> The answer is "no." The reason why the lobbies are being retired is because the technology is outdated. The MemberPlus program is also going to be retired, because in our new community system, we will be empowering the players with services and features that will allow you to do more. Thanks!

As you can see, they seem to avoid the question.

ANd this is an example of how they really don't care

Quote:
_Live_8_2005_> Hi there Shrine and Zmaster :) First thank you for providing us with these Q and A sessions if only there were more, and for giving us the month and a half warning to the zone shutting down. and thanks for letting 1 more question be asked =) very greatful

Most of the questions asked by others have been about the card / board lobbies. While many of the people for these games will find it hard to adjust, there are many sites offering the same service, just not as good as the zones. What happens to the people who play in the older retail games who have no where else to go, You say you care about the community and that the zone software and programming is out of date. If this is the case could you please consider releasing some of the information / code on launching DX Directplay for the older CD games? At least then some of the communities will be able to stick together after June 19th, and along as no one is profiting financially from the information how could it hurt giving it out.

+ZMaster@Zone> Good questions Live. For the CD-ROM games, you can still multi matchmake via IP; however, not through the zone. There are also other websites that allow you to play older CD-ROM games... please check http://www.microsoft.com/games for updated information.

The Directplay code is patented and we are unable to release it publicly. For older CD-ROM Games, you can check with the game developer or publisher for other alternative places to play! Thanks Live.

At least the M+'s were nice about it, but of course they are just the techy guys saying what they are paid to say, more than likely, they don't want zone to change either.

Granted its human nature to hate change, but what possible need is there to remove it all? Well things liek this can often lead to great new advances. How bout gamespy? lol.

g8torsbizktai20, you are correct of course. But people become accustomed to things and it's for them that we strive to preserve the zone. It's an important part of the game and so we treat it that way.

Slayer, you too are perfectly right. Those chats are not true communication in the sense that people talk and respond to each other. It's a phoney put-on so the zone can delude themselves into thinking there's been some sort of effort put forward when there hasn't been. They don't answer questions because they are not interested in what others have to say, they are not listening, they are telling people how it is. It's propaganda and self-serving rhetoric.

Back in January I recommended that people send notes and letters of complaint to the local news stations and news papers in their area. Has anybody done that? We have. If you need help, let us know and we'll see what we can do together.

Nothing is a fore-gone conclusion. There is no time deadline on this. We can fight as long and as hard as we choose. And always remember and never forget, just because a site is removed today doesn't mean it can't be made to come back tomorrow. We've done it before. We can do it again.

I already sent my emails. This is BS.

Just because some corp idiot things the game is old, or its some young dork that knows nothing about our game, and was directed to trim the fat, they still have no idea, or dont care who we are or how much this game is still alive.

I dont race online, and havent been able to for years since I switched to wireless, but I still liked going there to watch what was said in the main chat room. Also, I liked going there because no matter when I went to visit, someone would always recognize my name and always say HI. I liked that, and miss that, thats why I sent my email to "Micro-bend-you-over".

ALtho i dont know how wireless makes it so u cant play (i stole someone elses wireless and played lol) but thats beside's the point.

Ive noticed MS hasnt been producing any more PC games, so such a lobby for PC games may have beconme too large of a liability. If you notice its all Xbox games. To bad, i personally way prefer the options that you can have when you play on a pc. and especially after the 360's suposed 25% defective rate..... I'm not buying a console any time soon. I cant say i have a clear memory from back then, but im pretty sure when i got my SNES it had 0 problems. and my PS1 had 0 problems. my intelivision had 0 problems, my atari had 0 problems lol. perhaps im just not in the percentage that had a defective machine, but if nearly everyone i talk to that bought the 360 says something was wrong with it, thats pathetic. I'm not a fanboy, but i hope the PS3 has a better release lol.

Someone get those third party sites and post some links, perhaps we should decide as a community where to move to eh

i have an xbox 360 and absoultly nothing is wrong with it. I will never sell it, and i will not be getting a PS3. With a PS3 being $600, its ridiculous. despite what you heard over the majority of the people have had nothing wrong with theres. the ps3 will have just as many problems as the 360. with all that power in such a small small space overheating will occur. just the other day at e3 one of the ps3s on display froze up. so problems with occur with all consoles.

BUT back to the zone thing. cant you make your own chat room for use like the zone, just you would have to manually enter the ip address.?

Yes, we can pursue those options as need requires but the task at hand is to preserve the zone.

dont mean to sound pesimistic, but we alrdy know thats impossible. The majority of zoners do not play the classic CD games but rather the card and board games and such, and those are all just getting updated, so more than likely those ppl dont care.

Same as, i cant control gas prices, but instead of driving my car eveyrwhere i bought a scooter that goes 300 KM on 2 dollars in gas. I could also get an electric car but the scooter only cost 1000 bucks lol, and ive well made that up in the 2 dollars in gas i put in 2 years ago and only know is it hitting the empty line lol.

You are correct on most points. Except those games are not just getting updated. At least not from our standpoint.

Last year they said everything would remain but our rooms would be deleted.

This year they say all games will be deleted... but they're going to put everything back except mtm2.

They can say it any way they like, they can give the restored games a facelift, and they can switch from zone messages to msn messenger but the bottom line is the same thing. They are deleting a game that is still active and that has no valid compatible sequel.

You said it above, they avoid direct questions. That's because they're blowing smoke.
