on a negative note, lets hope this new game isn't as easy to hack and defy like mtm2 was, which naturally spawned a lot of cheaters. I mean like, when its as simple as editing a truck pod file in notepad and you can change the TRK file, thats to easy.

I cant wait to c how network play will work, if the custom trucks arent super big, perhaps it would be possible for players to transmit their trucks to all other players when the game launches so everyone can see their custom trucks. (of course with the option to not have it do that)

I had that same idea at the beginning of development, right now Im currently trying to find a physics engine that is freeware that is capable of holding monster trucks and what they can do.

I saw one screen shot that showed the rear wheels of the truck turned in the same direction as the front wheels (crab steering) vs. the "normal" way where the rear wheels are turned opposite the fronts to get a tighter turn radius. Does this mean that the rear-wheels steering will be seperate and in-dependent of the front wheels? Would it be possible to make it that way? say (for default keyboard controls) you use the arrow keys for the front-wheel steering and, say the A and S keys to steer the rear wheels?

Or, if you use a gamepad (like me) that is set up Playstation-style, with the front R1 and L1 buttons, use the joy stick for the front wheels and the R1 and L1 buttons for rear steer.

You said you were going for realism, well, here you go. If you watch monster-truck videos, you'll notice that sometimes the drivers will use ONLY the rear wheels to navigate tight corners, making the truck turn with a near zero-radius, like a forklift, and turn QUICK!

And some people would argue about not having the sensitivity of an anlog control over the rear wheels. For them, I submit this: On the real trucks, most of the time the steering on the rear wheels is controlled merely by a two-pole toggle switch. switch left, full steer rear wheels left. Switch right, full steer rear wheels right. They merely change the sizes of the valving to control the rate of the steering, then incorporate limit switches to tell the pumps for the hydraulics where to stop. And besides, if this physics engine is as real as you say it will be, using the rear steering at anything over about 60 will end in disaster, anyway. (rollovers and scary stuff like that, i would think).

Anyway, just and idea, and I know, I know, I should stop pestering you with stuff to add to the game. But I just had to say that. I'm done now... :D

On the new Freewebs Project Monster website, Mat told me that yes, the wheels would be independently steerable. Also, you will probably be able to assign a certain function to a certain button, ie the default rear steer keys could indeed be A & S, but if you wanted a different key to carry out the rear steer, you could change the function to that particular key. [:-)]

And what if you can't push a button to operate the rear steer? Will it also work automatically, like it does in MTM2 now?

people NEED this game to come out, not just want.



the problem is the lack of people who can actually model...as i'm sure you've noticed , a lot of people just take what's there and paint over it or add small things...not create something new.


I have to say, you have the cream of the crop right there...Jon and Meth are fantastic modeler's and are fully capable of creating what you need. There's no need to cut the game's production, because there is no deadline...it wouldn't make sense, yanno?


but since KC/Vales isn't garnishing any replies...why not try on NON mt related video game sites? Try out a CRC or 1nsane site...you may just find someone who is interested in helping out.

I agree with ya man. Don't let a minor set back like this ruin the whole thing for ya. I have voluntered my time to make tracks models still learning to do good ones my applogies there. But he does have a point try some other non- mtm2 gaming sites. Might be real happy in what ya find!

OK, good idea! If you're wondering why no updates for a while, it's because we're in one of those holes in the terrain - a.k.a. looking for a better way to do it, lol. We've found a really good physics engine, though, so hopefully it'll start going faster.

awesome! I'm glad you got the physics out of the way...I know that a lot of the time, physics are a HUGE pain in the posterior.



something you could do to help you all out just a bit, is maybe just have 2-3 different frames , rather than trying to make all unique ones? I'm not sure if that's what you're doing or not, but if not, than go for it :)



Tracks......i'm not sure how to make that any easier...hmmm...i'll think about it today and maybe something will pop out at me...but if i were you, i'd just do a couple tracks, two-four maybe, and than people can just start learning how to make their own i guess?

hmm, i really wish i had picked up object building when i was making tracks for mtm2 lol, i'd love to help on this game, but i'm about as useful as a cyst right now.

It's funny how everyone responds to a request for help with "I don't know how to..." To me, this does say you don't know how, but it also says you are unwilling to learn. Believe me, it's not that hard. I was intimidated at first too, but I didn't want to have to rely on mooching off everyone else. Any idiot that passed third grade math is well equiped for using a program like BinEdit. It's really a shame to see how lazy people have become.
