downloading isnt stealing, but downloading something and not paying for it is, fine its ok to download a song if you already own the CD, but what more often happens is ppl download it, and if they dont like it, they delete it, if they do like it, they keep it and burn it and many others to a CD, argo never actually buying the CD and the poor businesses selling these CD's end up in the gutter and have to steal things themselves just to survive, thus crime and poverty increase. come on ppl, end of arguement, you should never steal, no matter what the reason. unless your dying i dont want to hear about it. enough of this sinful post, for *beep* sake, its one of the commandments. its something that has existed for longer than i can even consider.

I miss the days that the punishment for theft was they cut off your hand, that punishment seems fitting to me.

Your logic doesn't play. If I buy from Sam's then according to you HMV will go out of business. But I am not obligated to keep all retailers in business. If I order music through a record club in the mail, does that mean it's my fault that retailers are over-charging so much they put themselves out of business? I don't think so. Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a pathway to your door. It's called free enterprise. It's what north america is founded on. Look it up, it's in history books.

It's not stealing. And the discussion is not over just because you say it is.

And stop swearing please. People used to get their tongues cut out too, you know.

the thing i like about downloading is say there is only ONE song you like on an album. Instead of going out and paying like $20 now for an album(the price is getting ridiculous) i can download the one song. as long as i dont make Cds and sell them i see music downloading as fair game.

one song to 2 billion people is a lot of lost money and lost economy.

I agree, g8torsbizktai20! I don't necesarrily need a whole album of an artist. Sometimes, that one song is good, but the rest is crap to fill the empty space of the CD. Actually, I would not buy a CD for one song, so if I download that song, the company doesn't earn less money because of me, because I wouldn't have bought the album anyway.

And that's compensated by the people who download songs to get to know new artists to buy the real albums. A lot of unknown bands get known because of the Internet. Unknown songs get known through the Internet. Didn't David Bowie put a free downloadable song of his new album on his website to promote it?

Bedankt ;) for explaining, OLD_mumhra!

The name Hasselt rings a bell, but I'm not sure where exactly it's located.

Phineus, I had to read a story about you for my Greek Mythological class. ;)

its ok to download free songs, its not ok to download songs that arent free. If an artist wants to give out there songs for free thats ok, but illegal downloading from places such as kazaa, imesh and other online download sites is illegal and costs everyone millions daily

your trying to justify theft, if you only wanted the one song, there are places like napster where you can buy the single song. you dont have to steal it

To me, Slayer, it looks as if you're bouncing in many directions to make your point. We know your opinion. It is not nessesary to use so much useless space in your posts to convince us. Swearing doesn't help either or any other possible device you'd like to use to draw attention to your thoughts. Actually, your opinion is much more appreciated when you share it in a kind way. ;)

I'm not saying that you are wrong. You're right that doing something illegial is bad. My point is that downloading music should become legal.

it might be im not sure, dont c why not, unless the artist wants money for their work then it might aswell be free.

I feel i might connect more with you ppl if i in my own way justify downloading.

macromeda flash, firworks, dreamweaver. just look at the price tags, they dont deserve that much money, they deserve to have their product stolen.

something too few ppl know, you can get crazy amounts of free music at newgrounds

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio
of almost any genre. and its all completly free.

for the last time id like to summerize (them im not posting here again)

I think downloading music is ok, but only if it was the direct intent of the artist (IE the song is free).

Good point! If so, I guess the genre of "protest songs" fits him best. :)

My quote was deleted for apperntly being bad.

I'll leave a link to the quote and if you feel you wont be offended you can read it.

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net ... icindustry

Its about Maddox's views about the music industry. Profanity is about 6/10 but im pretty sure he avoids the f-word some how.

Again only view it if your not easily offended, and if you are offended afterall, the guy has a hate mail section.

Thanks everyone for posting here. I've written my essay, which I'll submit to my teacher tomorrow. It was quite a challenge to write it, though.
