I'd love to call it mtm3, but the only problems are

a. Monster Truck Madness is a copyrighted name, if I am not mistaken.
b. MTM2's physics engine was similar to mtm1's, while this one will be entirely different to add realism

If it weren't for #1, I'd probably call it mtm3.

I think, for right now, just call it Project: Monster, and find a name after the game is closer to ready!

Lol, sure they did, just that I figure I could wait to give it a real name until it's finished enough.

Did I promise you any visuals? Well...

Image

It's based on mtm2's races screen, but it's 1024x768 (image resized for web) and much more efficient. However it's a WIP and feel free to give it your crits.

i personally think that like drag, figure 8(which was sorta TNT) and freestyle should all be under one name. besides that it looks great!

Well, the reason they are separate is:

-A drag is a straight-line (or J-shaped) race that is X-symetrical, meaning it's the same on both sides. It usually lasts for a couple seconds.
-A figure eight is kind of like a drag except that it is considerably longer. The truck that takes the outside lane at first curves around and takes the inside lane for the second half. Symmetry is harder to find.
-A freestyle track is an event that, unlike drags or figure eights, has no rules. Basically it just involves pleasing the crowd and getting the judges' approval.

The button that was labeled "computer opponents" will be listed as AI in the competition menu. There will also be an option to hold a series of races in which the AI races itself, kind of like mtm2's demo option. This could be fun when you want to watch some drag races or something.

LOL! That's fantastic! I honestly can't wait! Let's see more pics... you know, like in-game. They would be good, even without textures! :D Pleez...

Lol, I forgot all about this with some real-life stuff going on.

The terrain editor is partly done already, the next thing you'll see is a set of wheels rolling around.

EDIT: Okay, it's not a set of wheels, but it's a wheel in development. Here it is in development, what do you think?

A feature that would need to be in the game I think for online drag racing would have to be a fature where times from qualifying can automatically be bracketed, instead of a bunch of guess work or mistakes.

Maybe this was all ready damaged, but I think real-time damage should be made, if it is possible, along with real time physics. Tires can come of the rim, blow the bead, or the entire tire and wheel can come off. The fiverglass panels can come loose and fly off, exposing the frame. Drive shafts could brake, along with sway bars. Shocks could come apart, engines be blown if over revved. Stuff like that.

The physics should allow for realistic crashes, and rolls. The truck could get pitched off the ramp differently. Allow for realistic suspension action. The track, ramps, and cars could "go away". The longer the race, be it for circuits, drags, freestyle, w/e, the more the track's dirt, and ramps, and cars could change. Maybe depending on the event, the surface could be slick, dry, or tacky.

Also, realistic sky wheelies, power wheelies, and rebound wheelies. How about independent front and rear steering.

Just few thought. of course, this all depends on what your engine will allow.

1. Not sure what you mean by that.
2. Damage will definitely be realtime, and the wheels will be able to come off, but I'm not exactly sure how to do the tire-blowing thing or the off-the-rim thing or whatever.
3. My thoughts exactly. Not sure if the dirt could change except for tire tracks, but the cars will be wrecked by the end of the race. Also there will be an option for AI-only drags, for video simulation :)
4. I *think* I can implement those.

Here's my non-textured arena so far.
Image

The square area near the lower right is a truck preparation area. The track surface is sunk lower than the usual surface so that you don't hit bottom when making dips in the terrain. Low-poly spectators will be able to pick a random seat and come in through those holes and sit there.

DUDE YOU ARE A GOD! ive read all the ideas...i have a few more....

1. race shop - like be able to open up a parts catalog and purchase new engines and headers and pistons and all that other kind of good stuff

2. be able to purchase and build new chassis and frames like bigfoot 8, 9, 10, etc

3. try and get as many as realistic arena venues as possilble...well like big ones like superdome, silverdome, but have some "sortof unheard of's....ALLSTATE ARENA *COUGH* *COUGH*

4. again with the engines, be able to have like belts break off or like engines blow then the next week or so you should have to fix it out of your cash and possibly take loans and what not

5. for a truck editor, be able to use both binedit OR something in game like in the nascar racing seasons from sierra. they have paint programs and stuff but you can still open it up in PSP or open up an engine block in binedit and then bring it into the game and stuff

6. for physics....BODYROCK AND TRACTION ROLLS!!!!!!

7. be able to have MTM2 trucks be converted and have different powers like ..well...this may seem complicated...you can only bring in the body chassis and wheel and tire models but when you convert it your gonna have to go to the parts catalog and buy an engine and suspension and all that because if you bring in a truck from mtm2 with like a really big engine how is gonna be the like power?

8. have realistic points and seasons...like start where ever MJ starts and end in vegas and have summer heat

9. have different promoters if possible...torgerson, promt, cce, ect

10. GET AS MANY TR?CKS AS POSSIBLE WHETHER ITS FROM 80s OR 05!!!!!!!!!!

11. SIGN ME UP FOR TESTING!!!!!! lol

I think you guys are going way over the top with damage. The reason the big game companies don't make super realistic games is because they aren't as fun. If all this talk about blowing engines, tires breaking off, sway bars, suspensions and so on all can break, your freestyle run will only last like 10 seconds. And no one wants to play a game where you end up thousands of dollars in debt because you can do that easily in real life. If all this was to be implemented to a game I would have to demand that there be an option to turn off these critical damage aspects or even all of it.

I am all for appearance-only damage like bodies coming off and such but I wouldn't want to start up a game, load up a race and then be out of it 30 seconds in because I hit a rock and took my wheels off.

Unless it repairs itself in a few seconds. Like, "you landed wrong and broke your sway bar" and then it lets you go again with a healthy truck after a 2 second delay.

As opposed to blowing your engine, I say have it overheat and you have to wait for like 3 seconds for it to cool off.

No that isn't realistic. But if it was made realistic you would not be able to finish a race and still have alot of fun games are supposed to offer because you would be avoiding the big cool jumps and such so you don't break your truck and be out of the running.

if u can break tires off, i dont want them to come back in 2 sec. i hate it when it does that on monster 4x4, so if u break a tire off, tuff cookies and deal with it, fight your way through fs with a less tire lol
