i mainly used the bottom one and i undertand everything its sayin but when im done my textuers have splotches of pinks and bright greens where his only has different shades of brown. i have PSP4 instead of adobe, culd that be the problem?? also if you have used PSP4 or higher to make textueres could you tell me how please?? any help is appreciated!

If you still have those with the pink and green (not sure how they will look, it depends) but try this:

Greyscale the image.
Increase to all colors (Ctrl+shift+0)
Then go to the colors menu and mess around with the gamma/saturation/brightness (think thats what the menu is.. Haven't used in a while) Find a shade of brown and hopefully the green and pink weren't too bright to the point that they don't look good as brown.
