 Post subject: POD Question
PostPosted: Mon Jan 10, 2005 7:28 pm
I've been trying to install new trucks on MTM2, it worked fine until I got a message that I had too many .pod installed. Is there a way I could take the content from 2 or more pods and merge it into 1 single .pod so I could have more trucks and tracks installed?

MTM2 actually counts the .TRK files in truck pods and SIT files in track pods, so merging doesn't get around the limit.

The game is limited to 30 pods, but if you install the microsoft patch, then you can mount 99 pods.

THE PATCH:

http://www.microsoft.com/games/monster/downloads.htm

If you already have the patch and have reached the 99 pod limit, then you will have to uninstall some to add more pods.

BE SURE to leave the original 19 stock pods installed, else the game may not work.

These must never be removed in nearly all cases:

startup.pod
music.pod
sound.pod
truck2.pod
cockpit.pod
ui.pod
tpark.pod
alaska.pod
junk.pod
crazy98.pod
snake.pod
main.pod
aztec.pod
outback.pod
rockqry.pod
baja.pod
summit1.pod
summit2.pod
summit3.pod

For the game to run bare bones, you only need these mounted...

startup.pod
music.pod
sound.pod
truck2.pod
cockpit.pod
ui.pod

All the rest can be deleted. Or like I did, I merged all my stock tracks, and deleted all the Summits, they are the Rumbles. Then I just disabled them, so they are still there physically, so the addons can use the textures, but they don't show up in the game, because I got tired of running the stock tracks almost immediately.

All the rest of those mentioned above are all the stock tracks, some are merged from the factory, sometimes 3 per pod. You can delete those if you like. I also disabled all the stock trucks in the Truck2.pod. Now in my game the only stock thing that is still in there is the stock Bigfoot, all the rest is gone.

Trucks that use stock truck files and have been podzipped (had the stock files removed from the pod to reduce the pod size) will not work if you have the stock truck2.pod removed.

Most new trucks use custom wheel & axle models, wav files, etc... and won't be affected, but there are still many trucks in the archives that use stock files, especially repaints of stock trucks.

I have to assume that tracks featuring stock textures/models that have been podzipped would suffer likewise, though I have never made a track, much less ran one through Podzip.

As a result, I usually consider it best to advise people new to the game to retain the stock pods. Once they get familar with the game and how things work, then exceptions can be made.

I apoligize for bumping up an old thread, but I've been having trouble with the # of pods. I ran the patch in the game folder, and put in some truck pods. The total # of pods I have now is 49, (below the 99 limit, obviously) and the game will not run. It gives me an error, I go back, remove all but the stock pods and it won't do anything at all. Getting frustrated with this, don't really want to reinstall the game again, because the last time I had to do it the install program crashed over and over until I removed all traces of MTM2 from my computer. :x

did you remove a pod from your patch at the time this happened? i had a similar problem, i deleted a file from the game and when i did that, the pod in the patch screwed up somehow. it turns out when i deleted the file, i didnt push save in my patch to comfirm my deleting. so i pushed saved and fixed the problem. didnt know if that is whats wrong with yours.

I installed the patch, then I went into the pod.ini and added the names of the pods I wanted to add.

make sure, if you typed them in, that you typed them in correctly. put an extra letter or number or a . the pod will screw up. you need to make sure that you have everything typed right. thats all i know of that could be wrong. so make sure you typed everything right.

I think the first thing I'll do is copy the MTM2 folder, so I can experiment with one, and keep the other as is, so I don't have to uninstall/reinstall again. (That gets frustrating). If I get it figured out,I'll delete one of the copies.

You shouldn't need to reinstall the game.

Are you using a pod mounting program to add and remove pods from the pod.ini file. If not, you should consider it. Podit, and now cowpod too, will fix errors in the pod.ini file which should solve most problems like this. The link for podit is above, and cowpod can be found here.

http://mtm2.com/~mtmg/cowpod/

Just unzip to the game folder and double click it. Very easy and very good.

Be sure that none of your pod file names have empty spaces like 'my truck.pod'. All pod mounting programs except for cowpod will write the space into the pod.ini but the game cannot read files with spaces so in turn errors out with the bogus instruction to reinstall the game. 99.999% of the time a reinstall is not necesary.

If you copy and paste your pod.ini here we may be able to spot the problem, if you still have one after giving cowpod a try.
