Well boys I'm looking for some help. I've tried all my programs in the arsenal and nothings worked. Apparently a virus got into my registry and changed somethings and now I've got an annoying pop up about spy ware that comes up ever 30 minutes or so and an html file that I can't delete that covers up my desktop but not my icons? Anywho Spybot is the only thing that recognizes it and it says it's DSO Exploit. I've run registry mechanic several times and nothing helps. Anyone here that could help me out or should I actually try a pro cause I've done all that I know.

I found a forum thread that discusses the topic at length. There are a few proposed solutions right on the front page that seem pretty sound.

Actually, there is a lot of chat about this in a lot of places. Hopefully, the solution won't be too hard.

Let us know how it turns out.

Everytime I run Spybot, I get that same message. DSO Exploit, and there is only one, and it fixes it, but I could run it 5 minutes later and I get the same thing.

No harm has ever come to my pc because of it, so I'm not going to worry about it. In fact, I have like 5 friends off the top of my head, that all run Spybot, and everytime they run it, they get the same exact message.

I personally wouldn't worry about it. I have all the updates available, and killer anti-virus, and 3 spyware scanners and 2 seperate pop-up stoppers. My pc is like Fort Knox, and I don't worry about it, if I were you, I wouldn't either.

Always remember, if you don't trust your anti-virus software, always head over to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and do a free scan of your pc to check for viruses. I run Norton's, but that Trend Micro is about 5 times more anal about viruses and it will detect, and most of the time clean, your pc of all bad things, I visit there once a week.

Ya, I know what you mean RF. I get that DSO Exploit everytime I run Spybot on the PC I use at work. I tell it to fix it, then I run it 5 mins. later and it shows up again. It hasn't caused any problems though yet. From what I've read, you have to go into the registry and change some things. I also vaguely remember seeing a DSO Exploit removal tool, but I don't remember where I saw it.

Last nght, Zone Alarm told me a programs called ATIUPDATE.EXE wanted to access the internet....I didn't know what it was, so I said NO.

A google search told me it was something installed by a new unknown trojan one gets just from visiting a website, so I located and deleted it. (I had to hit Control-Alt-Delete once first to access task manager and shut it off in the PROCESSES window before windowsXP would let me delete it).

Last night before bed, I started a Norton Antivirus scan...This morning it said I was clean...

However, when I went online this morning, Zone Alarm once again pops up and tells me that MSshed32.exe now wanted to access the internet. Again I denied it access.

I found this interesting as the results of the google search the night before also mentioned a file called MSshed32.exe...I found it in the same place as the other item, and removed it using the same method.

Right afterwards, I ran Pest Patrol, and it immediately found what it labeled as "an unknown trojan".....I had it remove said bug, and now everything seems to be OK.

----------------

This just goes to say, you can't have too many protection programs on your system.....What one may miss, another may locate, since every security software company has their own list of virus's and bugs, and no one company has them all on file.

I use:
Ad-aware SE personal edition
Spybot search and destroy (immunize tool running)
Pest Patrol (best of the 3)
and I have Norton Antivirus and my Zone Alarm firewall running all the time.

Even with all this, that thing still got on my PC....Only Zone Alarm prevented it from going online and dumping all sorts of crapola on my machine...
I HIGHLY recommend it.

I also recommend getting Pest Patrol....It's not free, but it's pretty cheap, and was rated the best anti-spyware program by a well done review of all similar programs.

If you wish, you can look through the anti-spyware test/review and judge for yourself...It convinced me to get Pest patrol...
