I started up the 2.1 project and just when I'd had enough of the nonsense, I ran into someone who was still putting in a lot of work. So rather than leave him doing all the work himself, I decided I better get back to business.

So now the word is, we're not gonna touch the stock tracks. They're not fun to run day OR night. So I asked Yeastman if he would hand over a couple and he ok'd it. I got an old fav and an MX style track that I'll be adding lights to. have two of my own, yet unreleased, except one is actually a remake of an old multiplayer zone favorite. It really looks awesome now with the new models all over it.

The trucks are under consistant heavy construction. I just got a couple screenshots of Bigfoot and Black Stallion and they look very nice. Everything I'd expect from one of the best. He IS cutting a few corners though, but in the end, I think they will please all but the pickiest people.

I haven't been able to do much as far as editing because I had a Binedit mindgame thrown on me... It seemed that I could not insert an MTM model into another and save until I decided 'Sure - I'll convert face type to mtm' which I thought it should have been already...

But in the meantime, I thought I'd have at the UI makeover. It would help a lot of people submitted some pics to use, because the last time I had people telling me I'd step on some toes by using pics without permission. It would also be good if I could have a session or two with the truck man to see if we could photo texture... but that would mean lots of work being redone, and more textures added. He's been trying to reduce that number and is doing a killer job at it.

Finally, I snatched out a real peice of work from the game's CB department. After taking a few moments, I figured I could probably do no worse than the original. I had a fun time learning Xara's vector graphic features, and found it to be super easy incomparison to say, flash editing, which uses the same graphic principles. So here's what became of the CB Radio after some intense trial and error learning sessions...

http://www.iw.net/~alpine13/radio21.jpg

If anyone is still game for helping, please give me a hollar. The more people I have lending a hand for a 1/2 hour or so, the less we have to wait for the tracks to be finished. I know the trucks will be finished 1st, and if I have no help with odd tasks here and there, it'll be all year before I can get things ready for release.

Here's the duties layout:

Trucks: - should all be taken care of. No help needed in that department that I know of.

Tracks: Custom checkpoint markers would be GREAT! Especially if they have a light attached and an 'Madness 2.1' or 'MonsterStyle' logo on them. Custom billboards are also a plus for decoratives. For that matter, I've also found truck trailers and boxcars make good advertisement areas.

Game screens: I've been stuck on wanting to do that myself, but I do need images submitted before I have to hunt them down and steal them lol I plan on redoing every image in the UI pod, and thats a huge project in itself, so if anyone wants to help by doing image or button sets, we can square away which we'll handle. So far, I have no idea what I wanna do with the options/button allocation images...

Promotions: Web editing/site hosting will be taken care of but nothing is definate. I'd rather have at least a few choices. I am one of them...I'd love to get stuck into Xara Webstyle 4 and kick a little flash. As for advert and link images, we can use all we can get so if you feel like taking a stab at one of the many flash editing programs available, I think I can probably set you up with the goods. I know Im sure gonna be having fun with it when the game editing is complete!

Finally, (and Phin or Mal would be those I'd turn to first...) I'd like finished projects sent in for safe keeping, testing, and trouble shooting. I'll have my hands full as usual just thinking my way thru lazy days. lol I definately think someone who's used to running thru trucks and tracks on a regular basis would be perfectly suited for this. It would also be interesting to have record of the work involved in the 2.1 project. It should have all the images and screenshots, sort of a walk thru of the project being created.

Well, thats it for me... I've waiting up for +DakotaSky to bring home a report on the birth of yet another grand daughter. And I think the pepsi I just drank has fueled me just enough for typing this post.

Hope I get some feedback on this... and at least a couple of people that now realize this project wil indeed bring just about everyone who has the game installed asking for it. I mean, we got people skinning their zone images... because they are STARVING for something new. So Im gonna give them what they want... I'm even gonna redo the truck select screen garage bin AND the winners circle crown! lol

Oh, and if you need a little initiative, those who make a decent contribution get to have their personal truck and favorite track included in the install. And if you dont have a personal truck, gimme a hollar and I'll personally paint a truck so tight you'll almost be affraid to roll it.

That's great, Alp!

Say, what operating system is that?

Can we see a truck?

One more thing... could you make a Harry Potter truck?

So then, the trucks mostly replicas? Updating the old trucks to their newer looks? Adding in more reps of popular trucks? Reps? Reps? [;)]

I hope the truck guy is Slick, RF, or Betrayal, they are the best rep guys out there.

didnt you say before that you were going to sharpen the graphics more? it would be nice for the textures to be less blurry.. maybe even be able to use models with high polys without too much lag. but i wouldnt know whats possible. i also wish Oliver would update Traxx... but i doubt hes even floating around anymore.

Where can madness 2.1 logos be found? It seems like the previous sites that had them have been taken down. I will take a stab at CP markers but need the logo.

Tyler: Oliver did not make traxx... he made the first version of binedit along with other useful programs. Guitar Bill is the one who built Traxx.

Oliver Pieper didnt make Traxx... that was Guitar Bill. OP made BinEdit, TrackView, Podmate, Bin Animator...

The stock trucks are getting made over with higher poly models. The wheels will be standard, but there will be an option for high/low poly truck bodies.

Kdawg, I gotcha on messenger for the logo transfers...

Cale, you were supposed to be the pic guy... so where are the pics?

I meant to provide this link earlier but geocities deleted the site because I hadn't logged in in a long time. I sent the webmaster a note stating my disappointment and they restored it.

I asked about what types of pics you wanted on the BBS and you never replied (or you did and I didn't see it). I've been busy with work but I'll try to find time to find pics!

Hey Alpine, I'll be able to make tracks for MTM2.1. Just let me know the details. E-mail address is in my profile.

I have yet to learn to make my own models/bins, but I can retexture, and somewhat edit existing models/bins.

What about the MTM2.1 website. What's become of that?

I have very little patience, and I want things done instantly. Message boards are ok for certain things but NOT for this sort of thing. Response must be immediate, and if not, this thing is lost. Here is a scenario:

I'm in editing and I hit a snag... I look to see who is online, find someone who may be able to help, ask, get answer, and I'm on my way. The model gets completed within minutes and I can rest.

Harry Potter, huh? That will probably make the best truck ever if I ever get onto it. I think I can make it and have it done in a few days if I remember to get started.

2.1 website... Gee... I wish I had a message board that looked like the mtm bbs. That would be perfect for starting a site. I have Webstyle 4 and I can whip up a site in no time but without a BBS for people to give feedback, it's useless. Communications means EVERYTHING in this community. Without instantaneous response, we lose people have to put things on hold and that could mean the difference between getting a track finished, and having it on the back burner for months...

I don't mean this to offend anyone... really I don't.

But what Alpine is looking for a special breed of builders. The idea of MTM2.1 is to not make a new game, but to purdy up the one we enjoy now.

So we need builders with exceptional artistic skills. What we are after is to make stuff that would normally bogle the mind if we saw it in MTM2. I'm talking seasoned pro's. I'm talking as if me, BD, Mal, Phin, Cale, {add in whoever you want} etc. step way up and make some really killer stuff.

Now this doesn't mean that if you started editting, that you can't play, not at all. But if you are going to help out in this, than we want you to bring your "A" game. I'm talking, take your time, don't rush anything, if you have a question about something, ask, that's what this forum is for. But we don't want "here, I just slapped this together, hold on a sec, I have 10 more just like it".

We want all involved to act like you're getting paid for doing it, as if you do something, and it's junk, you'll get fired. The idea is to make a better version of MTM2.

If you think you can deliver, then we welcome you with open arms... need a hug?

We wanna show Microsoft how great this game "coulda" been, if they hadn't rushed it.

You may have saw the texture job I did, for my custom ten-pack tex set, as well as the textures for 68Z32A. If you would like, I will gladly make a texture set for new MTM2.1 tracks.

Hey Rep! I coulda used a hug LOL

If it sounds like I've been losing it, its because I was strung out on coffee and then ran out for about a week. OMG! I read back on some of the stuff I posted and although I see how I can still see from that point of view, I must really have been on edge to go so far as to post it. +Daks got another two whole canisters of the good stuff so I'll be ok for a month or so.

Anyways, I feel a sense of coming together today. Its like a small light just caught my eye at the end of a dark tunnel. Sorry if I came off like I had my head up my hiney... I really am. I just give certain people credit for trusting my instincts, and knowing I get huge results. When I dont feel Im getting enough cooperation, it frustrates me.

Hey - Its cool guys. D2S reminded me that we shouldn't feel rushed or pressed for time. That kind of pressure is just the thing that gets me edgy. I need to relax... let things take time to come together. The MTM world isnt gonna end tomorrow or anytime soon. Hell, as long as the MTM2 main is active, I think people will always stop in to chat. Well, unless MTM3 comes along LOL

Oh, hey... guys. How much ya wanna bet 2.1 can get another gameroom on the list? It'll be like Nitro Injection, Madness 2.1, Tournament Room, and Trial Version. Of course, everyone will stay in Nitro... but CNR got its own room. I think a few called in favors could get us the true mark of accomplishment. Its only happened 4 times that I know of, and I think we'll throw that out as a trivia question in a seperate post ;)

Again guys... Im very sorry for my attitude.

No offense taken, I was just trying to say what I think you were trying to say.

I have a way of cutting thru the BS and speak open and cleanly, so I did.

We're all good, just trying to put everyone into perspective, and that we're all focused on the same goal. As long as all that is understood, we can move on.

If you got the talent, we can use you.

There was a saying about situations where someone says 'Trust me'...
and yet even still - with someone saying they have even a few tracks coming out, one tends to wonder how they could be quality efforts. Unless you're holding onto a few works to be released at the same time, I'd say you are likely rushing yourself, and I can't imagine why. Your tracks quality will suffer... something I learned by taking the advice of someone I really didnt like very much, but I didnt dispute the logic.
