As the month comes near to an end, I would like to issue a tribute to all Formula 1 drivers who have died in this month, over the years. Here is a small list:

Ayrton Senna - 1 May 1994

Tom Pryce - 5 May 1977

Gilles Villeneuve - 8 May 1982

Lorenzo Bandini - 10 May 1967

Elio de Angelis - 15 May 1986

Alberto Ascari - 26 May 1955

If you want any info about the crashes, there are videos of Senna, Pryce, Villeneuve and Bandini here: http://www.formula1news.it/dati/video.htm Be warned, they are very frightening and graphic and the Tom Pryce video is very gruesome, view with discretion.

Rest in Peace, great drivers.

You know, a tribute is fine and well, but some of those movies are a bit much. I have no idea why a person would walk in front of a car moving in excess of two hundred miles per hour, and even less so for why somebody would collect things like that ...on a web page or otherwise. Maybe they caught me on a bad day or something, or maybe I'm just being squeemish for some reason, but to say some of that stuff is 'upsetting' is to understate the case. It seems to me the maker of those clips is deliberately trying to gore-ify the accidents. I'm not suggesting you remove the link, but just that anybody going to that site should brace themselves for some pretty ugly, gruesome footage. And, no, I am not particularly a fan of the slash 'em and stash 'em type film, and I think that associiating a 'tribute' with that stuff does absolutely nothing to honor the drivers you mention.

Sorry if I offended you Phineus. Don't think of me as an insensitive nut who enjoys watching fatal crashes but I have seen worse things. I personally watched those videos once and do not want to see them again. The drivers I mentioned are very high in my respect list and I would not deliberately dishonour them.

There would always be someone who would ask to see videos so I just thought to post the link there and then. I accept that they are frightening accidents. In future I will not post links to videos of that kind of accident.

Btw, the marshal in the Tom Pryce accident was crossing the track to extinguish a fire in the car on the opposite side of the straight.

No apology. I just wanted to emphasize the warning you already gave. Then again, maybe I'm just getting old [bump]
