Before I had Cable, and I could play MTM2 fine, but I found DSL provided by SBC was exceptionally better for my other games I played online. I tried playing on MTM2 with DSL, but i couldnt even get into a game.

After someone/me launched I would either get the message "Host failed to launch game" , or no one would show up in my game when i launched. My firewall is not active, and thats all i think it could be. MTM2 is installed in the default directory, and I re-installed the game + patch. I dont have a router. PC is connected directly to the modem via ethernet and modem connected to phone jack.

I still get the same results after 2 months with DSL.

Any suggestions?

I had cable before, but since I moved, me and my roomate share a connection now and it's cable. But ever since, I can't race online anymore too.

For RepFan, Depending how your firewall is set that where your problem is. The router need to be set to DMZ but only one pc will be able to connect on a game. the other one will only be able to access internet.

Gamer, your problems sound like the problems I was having with my router, which acts as a hardware firewall that needs to be turned off to play on the zone.

And since you mentioned SBC, my son-in-law in Georgia got SBC DSL for Christmas, and the "modem" that SBC gave him actually has a router built in to it. You might want to check that. It looks like a modem, one port for the telephone line to the wall, and one ethernet port to connect to the computer, no other ports to "route" anything to, but nevertheless, it has a NAT router built in.

I don't remember how we got into the settings to essentially turn off the firewall, but if it turns out this is your problem and you need more help, I would be glad to dig a bit deeper.

Yeah... I didnt know how to open ports for this modem, but I finally found the user guide for it on bellsouth support page.

For other people who have SBC DSL. You type in Internet Explorer search bar "http://launchmodem" All of your info should come up automatically, but you might have to type in your username(e-mail), and password.

You click on Expert mode, then you'll see a warning screen, just click yes, go into expert mode. Then you'll see an extra button on the left (Configure) Click it. 4 drop down buttons should appear, click on NAT, and you can enable / disable ports there.

They have 2 preset profiles, for MSN Gaming Zone.

These are the ports zone.com specifies you need open in order to play.

I didnt see 80 or 443, so I made a custom service and added those ports. I still have a problem though. I'm only able to host games. When I try to join a game, and someone launches, either I will get AV after AV and I will be the only one in the game, or I will get an AV and MTM2 shuts down. Also not everyone can join my games, so I'm guessing there are still some ports that need to opened. Possible Trigger ports, but I still dont know.

I had this problem also, even when I set my computer to DMZ on the router.

The fix that worked for me was to manually set my IP address on my computer (not letting the router assign an address automatically), then I set that manually assigned address to DMZ on the router.
