 Post subject: HELP PLEASE

I am new to the site and need help loading trucks and tracks on my game. I download them and they are nowhere to be found. If any one can help I would be greatful.

The downloads should all be ZIPs (trackname.zip), if you've lost your zips then try downloading another and noting what folder it's being saved to, or use the Windows Find tool to find "*.zip" on your computer, sort by date and you should see them. If your system doesn't already handle them you'll need an archive utility that handles ZIPs of course, like <a href=http://www.7-zip.org/>7-zip</a>, or <a href=http://www.rarlab.com/>WinRAR</a>.

I have tried everything and I dont know what to do. I have loaded all the things that you have listed and nothing appears on the game.

Do you have the retail (CD) version of the game? if so, then list the things that you are doing here to add the tracks, then maybe we can spot where you're missing something or making a mistake...

yeah i have the retail cd. hell its sittin right in front of me. I go to open the game and nothing appears

I had to ask that because the mtm2 demo and bogus copies of the game do not allow any addons to work.

When you say 'nothing happens' do you mean that you double click the mtm2.exe and the game never starts? or do you get any kind of error message?

To make addons work, you have to some very specific things. They're not hard but if you skip a step then it won't work. So, question one. When you download a track or truck, it comes in a zip file. Where do you save the zip file?

Downloads are in the form of zips, the contents of which you must unzip. These game add-ons are in the form of pod files. i.e. "tr-ckname.pod". You must mount these pods in the pod.ini. The pod.ini is in the game folder, it's a text list of pod files, with a number at the top reflecting the number of pods in the list. If your pods are not in this list they won't be in the game. Utilities like "podit" make adding files to this list easy. If add-ons are not listed in the pod.ini they won't be in the game.

Ho ho ho, I did it, it was just a lil' something from one guest to another. When ya don't fill in the username it posts as guest. I knew it would look odd.

This what I have done. I have downloaded every progam possible. When I downloaded the patch it said that it was completely installed. Then I wnet to download the next thing on the list which was pditdll.zip, and got that on as well. When I go to unzip the files it says that its complete. So I go to look for the tracks or trucks on the list of things I have unziped and not a one is there. But here is the thing I go to look for them on my comp and they are there and it tells me that they are not unziped, and which I know I have unziped the files. I am so lost and very fustrated with the whole thing I nearly wanted to throw the comp out the window! Please reply and tell me if I am doinmg everything right or not.

Dear guest, in a nutshell:
Unzip your pods and put them in the main game folder.
Unzip a pod mounting utility and put it in the main game folder.
Then run the pod mounting utility by double-clicking it.
Using the utility, select the pods you wish to add to the game, then save and exit the utility and run the game.

If you can just move the files you unzipped into the main game folder, then run a pod mounting utility from that folder (<a href=http://mtm2.com/%7Emalibu350/downloads/mtm2/podmounting/PodIt.zip>podit.exe</a>, <a href=http://mtm2.com/%7Emalibu350/downloads/mtm2/podmounting/Podini.zip>podini.exe</a>, etc,.), you should be able to easily add the pods to the game.

Where did you unzip them to? But perhaps more importantly, do you have a basic knowledge of folder and file management on the computer?

Were they extracted into sub-folders, perhaps?

One thing that can make your life easier is to follow the note at the bottom of <a href=http://tutorials.beginners.co.uk/read/category/15/id/328>this page</a> regarding not "hiding file extensions for known file types", because seeing the "extensions" (.txt, .pod, .exe, etc.) would help you know which files are which.

If you don't have a grasp of basic file management you might find these links helpful:

It looks like you need to learn how to effectively deal with files and folders, in general.

Okay. Im not sure what you've tried, but here goes.

I know you have winzip, so i wont tell you to get it.

1. Go to www.warsplace.com and click the PODINI2.zip, right under where it says in very large text, "Need the patch? ..." (etc). It's not hard to find.

2. Open the zip file and extract ALL CONTENTS to your Monster Truck Madness 2 directory. (The default is: c:\program files\microsoft games\monster truck madness 2 - VERIFY WHERE MTM2 IS LOCATED, otherwise you wont know where to extract things.)

3. Go download the track or truck you wanted to use. It will be in a zip file.

4. Open the zip file from where you saved it. (Be sure to note the name of the .POD file that resides in it. You will need this info later.)

5. Extract all the contents to the MTM2 directory. It should be the same directory that you downloaded PODINI to.

6. Now, navigate to your MTM2 directory. (From my computer or something.)

7. Once you get there, you should see a bunch of pod files along with a few EXE's. In the directory there should be PODINI2.EXE. Open it.

8. A list will come up, listing all of the trucks/tracks that are installed in the game. The one(s) you downloaded will be at the very bottom of the list.

9. In the very left column of the list, there are the words YES or NO. This indicates if a pod is enabled or not. (Yes next to the ones that are, NO to the ones that arent.) --- Your's will have NO next to it, because they are not enabled yet.

10. To enable them and have them used in game, simply DOUBLE CLICK on the YES/NO of your pod. It should turn to YES, indicating that it is enabled.

11. Hit OK.

12. Fire up your MTM2 and your new track/truck should be in the list.

13 Have fun!

Now, i'm not sure if you've done all this or not, but even if you have, try this again to double check.

I hope i helped and that this solves your problem, and if not, then i'm sorry, but i don't know whats wrong!

Good instructions AcidX. The only thing I'd change would be the pod mounting program suggested, Podini2 has proven to be buggy on some systems. There are several alternate mounting programs out there but I find that Podit is the easiest and most efficient available, plus it will automatically fix missing pod problems in your pod.ini file that would otherwise cause mtm2 to error out.

I agree about that "PodIt" program. It is really great. What I like is that you can easily mount your .pod files anywhere you want. Helps when adding FixMore and stuff like that. I don't think that there are any bugs in it either.
