Location: USA and Proud of it.
an image is colors
and instructions of where to put the colors
an ac file holds 256 colors
a raw tells where to put the colors(the pixles)
a bmp file has both included in it - it has the color table and the bitmap data.
so u need to make a bmp in psp with 256 colors and then convert toe ht BMP->(RAW+ACT), you can do this c-pod or flyrawgui.
http://ch.zrecon.net/c-pod/c-pod.asp
look down on the left about textures etc.

Can ya tell us a bit more about what you're doing? It might make a difference.

I'm just making a simple texture. and i was following the given tutorial, but seems that i am unable to save it in a .Act file. I'm using PSP6 btw.

The tutorial talks about saving it to PAL form and using another TOOL (para pallette converter) that should convert PAL to ACT. i tried it but all i'm getting is .Raw formats.

Maybe i'm misreading but i believe i need .act format to use textures in MTM?

As for what i'm doing right now. I'm just attempting to make a simple grass tile. Starting easy and work my way up. I used the seemless texture tutorial, and wanted to see if I could get it to load up to Traxx.

reduce the images to 256 colors 8bit in psp (colors/decrease color depth) then copy and paste it into traxx. traxx will make the raw and act files for you

Furthermore. There have been a couple utilities made since that tutorial that make the job easier.

  • Traxx will paste a texture and create the RAW/ACT pair for you
  • Save as BMP and FLYRAWGUI will convert for you
  • Save as BMP and C-pod will convert for you.

The common denominator in all these cases is to reduce to 256 colors.
