I was looking at a few incredible creations by various truck makers and it triggered this idea.

In general, racing events such as tourneys are held using stock trucks, while in informal events we, in team slo, race with addon trucks without too much trouble.

Would it be a good idea to organize some kind of a truck show in which we could race more or less seriously with various truck maker's pride? I'd be willing to put it together etc but before I do anything, I'd like to get various ideas from others.

So I guess the questions is: what kind of racing format would be the best way to promote various truck maker's products? Truck package mandatory to download prior to the event? 1 round in a mud track with another on other terrain (grass, gravel etc...)

Perhaps just some form of informal racing like the Fastlane where in one room some can race with a few trucks on mud tracks and in another room ppl can race on gravel and other terrain type tracks.

I think you should specify an upper limit for the vertex count of the "authorised" trucks, otherwise...

Can't help you much since at LAN events to avoid all problems we allow and encourage only the use of repaints.

A vert limit isn't a very big issue for racers. The draggers have so many models on their tracks, that they cause so much excessive lag, that they need a limit.

As far as the idea goes, I like it. Like what did you have in mind there Jumpy?

i have several options in mind but the idea is to pay a tribute to those truck makers who's contribution to this game is often left on the side.
In tournies, track makers get their tribute by having their track in the scene. Tournements are usually refered to by the track name.

The racers get their gold and the winners are refered to by their name and team reputations are based on results obtained by their members.
What i have in mind here is a tourney where instead of racers representing themself or their team would register to represent truck makers and truck they use.

For exemple, if i was to race with Rep fan's gentle Ben i'd register as RF_gentle_ben. So in the end, It's the truck that get the credit instead of teams or individual.
Again, This one would be to give ppl the opportunity to see and drive some of those piece of art that otherwise would only be shown in pictures and pay tribute to those who make them.
Depending on the feedback i'll get, it can very well be just done simply like the fast lane. Casual racing where in one room ppl have a chance to race on a specified track with a predetermined truck pack.
I'm open to suggestion. I dont think it ever been done and i sure think Truck makers have contributed enough to the MTM2 community to earn some kind of recongnition for their work.

If need be, to adress the lag issue we can have truck makers to submit their trucks for inspection and from there if acceptable be merge into a truck pack for the event. Does it make sence?

Again, the lag is not such an issue as long as it's racable. Since the idea is not to win at all cost but rather to have a chance to actually have fun and drive with the various trucks. I figure it would at the same time possibly ease up some tension between teams as their would be no team in this one.

we tried a one pod truck pack once in a league race, and everybody had horrific lag.

I guess the thing I wonder, when you say "special", do you mean things like these oddities

http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=(S)tock+(T)rack+(P)rop
http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=ch_2005
http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=Malibu350

Or racing cycles on crashcart's new tracks (which might be fun, by the way)

http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=2x2+Monsters

Or motor boat racing?

http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=mbm

Or big rigs

http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=Rochester

Or theme'd trucks

http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=nhl
http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=nfl
http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=zli

Antiques? - lots of these around

http://mtm2.com/~trucks/trucks.cgi?s=oil+truck

Or replica trucks.

As much as it's a nice thought to honor truck makers, tourney and race results are still usually the result of a driver's skills.

If you choose some trucks, then you'd have to figure out good tracks that accomodate them. Racing motorboats on pavement would be an obvious problem, but racing big rigs not so obvious. For those you'd probably want tracks with a little more elbow room.

It would probably be a good idea to collect the trucks into packs so everybody in the race is working with the same ones, and you can eliminate the laggy ones.

Yup phin, i ment special creations of all kind, as for now, i haven't really got time to test many of the trucks that caught my attention. Track selection will obviously be done for what we intend to run ei big rigs or race trucks etc..

but i'll work on the project until it's doable. in other words, i'm not going to put a date on it until i know i have some format that work.
