Ok, so when is it that mtm2 will look in the subdirectories of the mtm2 instalation folder for files?
I have read that it will look in \music for mod music. When else will it look where for what?

/music
/models
/art

Those are the only ones I know for sure. As far as I recall it doesn't do /world or /truck.

Loose file lookup...

\sound (.wav)
\music (.mod)
\models (.bin)
\art (.raw/.act)

I don't know, I'd suspect this too:
\UI (.bmp)

In fact I'd suspect it would find and use everything but .sit, .lvl and .trk files - which must be in pods and properly mounted. Sound and music have the only real practical application, in that you can leave music outside the pod so people can change it or download it separately.

\UI (.bmp)

Guys who make mtm1 tracks for mtm2 often have the races bmp separate so it'll still run in mtm1, or at least I suspect that's the reasoning. So yes, it implies \ui would work too.

> Sound and music have the only real practical application

Agreed, but there's no way that was on their mind at the time.

I was mostly wondering so that i might think of a practical application or maybe an impratcical one :) but the other benefit of this information is that when you build a track or truck and you leav out somthing from one of those folders then the game wont give an error to you but it will to someone who downloads the addon cause they obviously wont have that in their folder.

I assume you mean leaving files out of the POD, not a folder.

That's why I always instruct new truck-makers to email their trucks to someone to beta-test before uploading a new rig.

It's also why I build trucks on my pent-3, then "network" them over to my P2 to beta-test myself....

That never need be the case! Always test a pod's tensile strength.

it does... there are a few older tracks where the browse bitmap is a loose file, when placed in the ui folder the game will display the image.

Phin I'll be sending you one of these tracks... I don't see it anywhere here, maybe you have it up under another name?

[edit] scratch that, I found it.. http://cownap.com/~tracks/dl.cgi?dl=978

Interestingly, the races pic shows up but the button/icon does not. Not only that, but when it's left out the default button/icon can be different from one track to the next.

Ah, I snagged one of the stock game buttons, which was the wrong size, but after fixing it, it worked ... from the /ui directory.

oddly oddly stuffly.

What a difference eight pixels make: RESULT1.BMP to RESULT20.BMP are 40x24
