Yeah Jumper, I still have the desire to race, it's in my blood. But right now I don't need any extra financial burden. I gave $12,000 for that car. I have amost $4,000 worth of engine under the hood, and a few thousand worth of speed parts in it, suspension mods, gears, wheels & tires, etc.
The old girl would run in the 11's, so I was moving along pretty good. My right front tire blew out, I lost control, went across my lane and into the other guys lane, I was on the left. It was right at the finish line. I won, but in the end, I lost.
I ache all over still. I'm a really tough guy, I can handle it. They had to get the "Jaws" out there to peel the door off, cuz the frame was bent so badly that the door was stuck shut, so after sitting in the heap, the track crew tried getting the door open with all kinds of assorted pry-bars, they finally had to use the big claw on it to get it open, which in turn... destroyed the body, and some of the roof. Today I have to go see some doctor about my head, it's pretty banged up.
I'm having some troubles walking, and I'm pretty stiff yet. But, this is what can happen even if you are in a controlled environment. The kids that street race *beep* me off, this very same thing could happen to those idiots, only there are other cars, and other lives to hit, not guardrails.
I was lucky this time, very. My car has a rollcage in it, and I was wearing a helmet, but the impact was so hard, that all that safety stuff caused more trouble, than did good. I'm really mad at myself over anything else. I should have been able to keep it off the wall, but it happened so fast, there was no time to react. Oh well, I guess.
Time to take some more pain killers, thanks for all the kind words.
