Well, have ya heard the news? Disney is proposing about making DVDs that will self-distruct after they been viewd a few times. I have read about anti-copy measures put in some hardware but never what Disney has planned.

What do you think about this? Good/Bad idea?

It's DivX all over again.....don't worry...I doubt it will go far....

(...unless.........unless Disney only releases their films on this new life-limited format from now on.......Good parents will go along with it for the sake of their kids seeing the latest from the Mickey Mouse company, rip-off or no rip-off...)

Personally. I think it is a big joke that hopefully dies as fast as DivX did....we'll see...

Who knows?.....if all new movies adopt such life-limited CD formats, then it could boost ticket sales at movie theaters! LMAO!

  • go out for a beer
  • visit friends
  • read a book
  • save money
  • take a trip someplace
  • you get the idea


Anybody who allows their entertainment or education to be held for ransom needs their head examined. And what if you buy one of these things and it's already expired? Try and prove you didn't watch it. I can't believe the greed some of these companies try to get away with. Imagine the money the riaa would save if they just got a clue.

Actually they get destroyed after 2 days and so far they are ment for rent in order for them not to search for the person that rents a DVD and steals in.

ps. divx is a pain. Used it only once; I avoid anything that needs it now.

DivX was a DVD-type format sponsored by Circuit City inc (electronics stores).

It let you watch the movie for 2-5 days, then it wouldn't play anymore unless you call the company and subscribe for more "play-time" (kind of like pay-Per_View).

Your player was hooked to your phone line, so they could send it "permission" to play the disc (also as Cable sends permission to your cable box to play a pay-per-view channel).

How'd you like to buy a CD with songs or movies that only played a short period? DivX is dying the slow-death that it deserves (tho still not quite dead... http://www.divx.com/ )

Disney is trying to re-create the concept.....pray they fail....

So that's why Divx became legal... hehe, heck i know. Never knew this, i only know the dark side to using some compression that comes with Divx :D
