I spent much of the last few weekends going through all 3 1/2 hours of this: https://youtu.be/LNpt2LiBjZw

It dawned on me that MTM2 may make a somewhat-perfect platform to somewhat replicate the series. I asked the small tires question below to see if that was the route to go, and in thinking about it, it's not going to be. Instead, I'm going to scale things up. This has been done before to make trucks look tiny - Team Death's fantastic R/C Arena is a great example of this - but I'm looking to accomplish a slightly different effect. The trucks will use the usual MTM2 6-foot tire size but then the truck bodies, and the environment, will be scaled so that size actually represents 3-foot high tires. It's a bit overscaled there too, but round numbers etc. This should allow the game to react normally, just models etc. will need to be made twice as big to accomplish what I'm looking for.

Obviously this will take some time, but I've gotten a decent start - the 5 base truck models (Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Chevy and Dodge) are all modeled...

...and the mapping is just beginning.

The trucks will be the easy part. I plan to use models for jumps, similar to a drag track, to replicate the rhythm section heavy track designs MTEG actually used. I'm way slower with Traxx so this is a long ways off, but I might look for some help in that regard. I may also raid other tracks for stadium models to make my life easier...

As with everything...I am now a dad and spare time to work on this stuff is few and far between, but eventually I should complete it lol.

I'm definitely gonna be following this closely, it's something I'd tried before but couldn't get right. I bet these trucks will be crazy fun on the old SX tracks! If you're on the Draggers FB page, might get in touch with Jack. His Monsters of Metal tracks wouldn't be too much different I wouldn't think.

Nice. How do they look in-game? It's been a long time for me.

Haven't gotten there yet! Going to try to get them all together done then put them in game with a test track - it's meant to be more of a comprehensive project than piecemeal this time.

That Toyota off-road truck reminds me of the ones I saw in "There Goes a Race Car." Nice work!

Little tweaks needed here but again a good start. Ford should be up next...

Now I'm wishing that these were ST trucks so I could use my Anaheim, Oakland, and Qualcomm stadium floors instead of having to make all new double-scaled tracks, since I'm planning on making some for these. Still, they're looking great so far.

I'll probably end up doing ST versions of these as well, because it will be just a simple scale down.

Jack, how do your stadium models look? I might end up wanting to use them as a base, if you wouldn't mind.

Here's a picture of the three stadium floors I made, not including Jacksonville and Miami. The Oakland one hasn't been released yet and the Anaheim one is still being resized, but I did upload San Diego to the site last year. Part of why I didn't want to resize them is that they're made by hand in Traxx, Blizzard-style, and not as a model in BinEdit.

I'm not as concerned about the actual track layouts, but the stadium models themselves. I'm still a bit of a ways off from getting deep into it, but I may be touching base with you about using them.

I understand. The pics weren't meant to focus on the layouts, but floor space and what the stadiums look like. I'm more than fine with them being used.

Just the Dodge left for the main bits, then onto the chassis stuff.

I've been going back and forth in my head as to how to attack the bed and undercarriage, and I think I have a plan coming together. Found a repository of old MTEG photos ( https://tracksidephoto.photoshelter.com ... 9WiAmC9vN8 and https://tracksidephoto.photoshelter.com ... l2EftYBSoA ) so I now have better references to go off of.

Hey Cale, I remember you mentioning you had to map all the textures to the bin models for your projects. I would imagine you can use whatever tools or something to get it to a obj/mtl file format. I wrote a simple utility to convert back and forth between, obj/mtl and bin models. It does all the work, even takes care of converting the raw/act to bmp ad vice versa. i figured you might be interested, let me know if you want a copy.
