Did you know?

Post by Kmaster »

I'm kinda bored, so I'm going to post crazy random facts about the game each day, just to show off my knowledge of useless stuff about the game.

Did you know:

Did you know that the track location of the MTM1 stock track Mud Pies is Greenbow, Alabama, which is a fictional town in Forrest Gump?

Did you know that the original Trex was green? It color was changed to blue because green matched the color of the grass in A Crazy Eight, making Trex not very visible.

There was also a purple BoS (Barney on Steroids) version of the Trex, although I can't recall which track it's in.

Did you know that the hidden track in MTM1, Hill Climb Practice, it's actually Ymir, a planet of Terminal Velocity?

Did you know that the Tracked 1 icon was a red truck because the original Monster Truck Madness/Heavy Metal Truck icon was actually a red truck?

Image

And now, why the icon for Heavy Metal Truck was a red truck? Because it is one of the stock trucks in Metal Crush

Did you know that in every TRI game, in the startup.pod file, there's a texture file called TITLE.RAW that has the beta(?) title picture of the game. This is a leftover from Terminal Velocity & Fury3. Later title pictures where stored in the UI.POD file.

Image
the original TITLE.RAW

TITLE.RAW for Fury3
Image
TITLE.RAW for Hellbender
Image
TITLE.RAW for MTM1 (the well-known metal crush picture)
Image
TITLE.RAW for CART precision racing

the title.raw for mtm2 is the same as mtm1. after mtm2, they seem to stop adding the title.raw picture.

I've become very impressed that a game engine designed for a space shooter later was used for MTM and the CART sim.

I got one for ya, K - the camouflage Dodge in the upper right of the Metal Crush title screen makes a cameo appearance as a street truck on TRI's MTM1 add-on track "King of the Hill".

Yup, I've been thinking about using that model & texture, and the cop bronco model to make my own metal crush truck set. I remember I made the yellow one years ago.

Did you know that the name metal crush was picked because a monster truck game would indeed involve a lot of crushing of metal?

Kinda obvious but now it is official I guess. From the primary source.

Yep, and in the end, only 2 cars in the entire game were crushable... and the crushing effect was sad.

I gots one for y'all. Did you know that the upper deck on the MTM1 RCA-Dome model was Upside down? If you don't believe me, find a track with the model in it, load it in Bin-Edit, and see for yourself.

haha. And the cars where placed in a hidden track, not really playable. Yet the MTM2 crushing system for the trucks was cool.

It wasn't hidden, it was in the Arizona track, on the east side of the city.
