Making a blacked out track
Making a blacked out track
Bassically, im tryign to make a track that feels like your floating in the middle of nowhere. Pitch black textures for ground (except where you drive) no reflections or shadows. Trick is, a backdrop, and the sky.
It has to be daylight, so this is a problem.
I need a blacked out backdrop, and a blacked out clear sky.
Does anyone got a backdrop like that, and know how I can black out the sky during clear weather? I was thinking one big bad model in the sky, but that would only appear if you were near the centre of it, so how do i change the sky?

You can try one of the backdrops from Alphaville if you want. The sky is a bit trickier and is in fact something I've looked at recently. Got no notes together yet but basically you manually create the sky palette and enter it into the LVL file manually after the track is done and then make sure it's all podded together. For lighting, I manually set the sun position in the LVL when I did alphaville. None of this is particularly hard to do, just need to fidget around with it a bit.

Yes. That's exactly what I mean.

If you get really stuck, I'll whip up a backdrop for you. Then it'll be a matter of blacking out the sky, which can be done very last.

For a backdrop that wouldn't work unless you use Untransparatize to remove the transparency from the model.

i dont know anything about backgrounds, othe rthan how to apply them heh. And yeah, dunno if its black.raw but i got some black texture on the ground (mighta pasted it in myself or something i dunno) but reflections of light is an issue, but i think/thought the weather settings would fix that, just remove shadows, darkness etc. weather is set to always be clear anyways.
I'm working on a down hill race right now, but i wanted to see if this idea was possible. Ill worry more about it later
This blacked out track, im kinda keeping a secret heh. But its gonna be fun/funny

don't forget drag 'n drop for taking one file out of a pod, editing it, and putting it back in:

Make the texture as black as you need, then use CH's untransparatize

Use unique names for your model and art. Calling something "black.bin" and "black.raw" is a recipe for failure.Surelog wrote:This didn't work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I took the black raw file.... dropped it into the untransparent, and then I used that for the backdrop of my track but it's still doing the halls of mirrors look.
Here is another example of blackness
