Planned Server Outage
Planned Server Outage
I got this from our server host:
==========
Dear Valued Customer:
We are committed to providing you with unparalleled service. To that end we constantly monitor, analyze and refine many of our practices, as well as periodically evaluate our overall network infrastructure. Our most recent evaluation has led us to undertake a significant change that will surely benefit our dedicated server customer base.
We are proud to announce the expansion of our data center. This facility has two electrical feeds from separate power grids to provide electrical redundancy, as well as three back up generators, and over 100,000 square feet of floor space. In addition, the facility is guarded by security personnel 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
This state-of-the-art facility, which has been host to all our dedicated servers provisioned since April 2004, will be the new home to our entire dedicated server line, beginning August 13, 2005.
An unfortunate, yet unavoidable consequence to this network restructuring is the need to halt services for up to 16 (sixteen) hours beginning Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 00:00:00 (EDT), while your server is physically relocated. We have every confidence this event will ultimately prove advantageous to our customers, and encourages you to bear this short term inconvenience with that in mind.
Your server will be disconnected on
Saturday August 13, 2005 at 00:00:00 (EDT)
and reconnected by
Saturday August 13, 2005 at 16:00:00 (EDT).
If we need to change the date and time of this relocation to a later period we will notify you via e-mail.
We regret any inconvenience the relocation may cause in the short term but again, assures you the long-term benefits will greatly outweigh downtime experience.
Thank you for trusting us with your business.
Regards,
==========
That's a long while, but knowing before hand makes it easy to endure. I will post a reminder in two weeks in case anybody forgets.

Okay okay, if anything takes longer than it should, you'll find any news on the http://mtmc4fun.com/ site. We can also post on the SLO and RIP forums too.
PS and by the way... saturday would have marked 154 (no kidding) days without a reboot. Seems I'll never make the elusive 1 year.
