truck painting problem
truck painting problem
when i bring up the bmp's for the paint shop, the body appears all different and weird colors, like really bright colors like lime green and pink etc. i dont know why, i think i did everything right. i increased the color depth to 16 million, so i dont know whats wrong. and how do you remove the stock paint? and how do you put designs from the internet on your truck, if you can do that.

How did you create the bmp files? It sounds like the act files are missing and so the colors get mixed around.
> i increased the color depth to 16 million
That's the thing to do, but the image has to be correct to begin with. The problem lies in how the files are being converted. If you can tell us how you converted them, then we can get closer to what's going on.
> how do you remove the stock paint?
You use your paint program to paint over the parts you don't want. The eye dropper tool is helpful for using the correct colors. Or, you can just use these (which are already in bmp form too)

You can do that. In the paint program, you copy the images you want and paste them onto your images. Sometimes it takes a bit of resizing, and touching up, but you can do it.

All the graphics in mtm2 uses two files. One is the RAW file, and one is the ACT file. They both have the same name but one has raw at the end and the other has act at the end. The raw file is the picture, and the act file tells the picture where to put the colors. So, if you have a raw file, but there is no act file, then the colors can get mixed up.

Are you painting one of the stock trucks? Did you extract all the files from the truck2.pod like it says on here?
http://mtm2.com/~mtmg/repaint/extract.shtml
When you say they look different, do you mean the icon beside the names or do you mean the names too? If it's just the icon, that's nothing to worry about. But if the names are different, then you'll have to re-extract the truck2.pod. And just to be dead on the mark, what truck are you painting. We'll make sure you're trying to convert the correct files.
Or are you trying to paint a custom truck? If so, which one.
Anyway, the tutorial you're looking at is a good one. There's something not quite right here, but let's stick with it, you'll get it for sure for sure.

A little patience. Maybe tomorrow when you can look at it fresh, try these couple things. First, check this page.
http://cownap.com/~mtmg/folderoptions.shtml
On windows XP it's under Tools on the menu, then folder options. That page was made when win 98 was out. But the thing is it'll still help to uncheck that checkbox beside "hide file extensions for known file types". That thing causes more problems than anything else. It really does. Then see if that helps. If not....
For the stock monster patrol, here are the gif file versions.

<img src="http://cownap.com/~mtmg/trucks/pics/Monster2.gif" width="256">
You can right click and save those, if you want. No act files to worry about.
If you want the blank ones (from the blank pack), send me an email and I will reply and send you the bmp version as an attachment.
Once you have them painted, then we'll work on putting it in the game for you. I know it seems like a lot to learn, and maybe even a bit too much at times, so let's just break it down into steps. There is no reason why you can't be doing the things you want to do. So, don't give up. It's only hard at the beginning. We'll get you there, if you really want it.

Don't even bother with the .ACTs and .RAWs. FlyRawGui will turn them into 256 color bitmaps. http://cownap.com/~mtmg/downloads/mtm2/ ... RawGui.zip
