Track palettes vrs. Trucks

Post by Malibu350 »

first off if this was already discussed forgive me i either missed the post or I can't find anything on it (lazy search).

secondly this is by no means a crisis, so don't anyone waste your time figuring out a fix for this on my behalf, I just thought i'd give a shot at pickin the brains of the pallet experts out there in MTMland thinking perhaps someone already knows of a fix.

OK, track "A" is a beta i've been working on and track "B" is Rock Ridge, the trucks are "Orange Crush" and "Superman", i have this problem with many other trucks and they all have one thing in common, they are either Blue's or Oranges, all other colors display perfectly.

I get the same colors regardless of where in the podini list the track/truck pod's are mounted.

Another one of them tricky issues. The theories and surmises are long and complex. So, let's see if we can just come to the quick. Try this. Unpod the textures from the truck(s), load them into the traxx texture box, paint them onto the terrain in a far away out of the way place (do a whole corner with them if you can), create a new custom palette - it will now take the new colors into the process. Try the track and see if there is a change. If no, try adding a few more squares of the truck textures. If yes, you can remove the truck textures once you're satisfied you won't be rebuilding another custom palette. Follow? Same idea we did to help SolarDog with his Checkin Screen. If the colors aren't there, then put them there. In principle, it should work.

That will make the trucks work in that particular track, but it won't guarantee they will work in all tracks. I don't think there is a way to do that.

On another note, nice job on the superman truck. I never thought there would be a half decent use for the Wrestle truck BINs.

if there was a universal palette for all tracks you could have the pallette in your pod and tell pplz to mount it up the top....

Perhaps it could be done with metalcr2 because i think tracks use that cause why is it still in MTM2 except for mounting MTM1 tracks n stuff....

If the track uses colors that are close to the truck, then it will appear correctly. If not, you're out of luck. The game chooses the closest color. My suggestion above aims to include those colors in the track palette. Nothing more.

In my Limited experience... having trying to create the "perfect" custom textures, following WK's great tutorial - I have actually come up with some great perfectly aligning textures. BUT - I am still having palette/texture colour probs. I have tried saving my track palette as a .Pal, converted it to .Act. Looks perfect in Traxx but in MTM2 all the colours go to Hell... seems like a conflict between the Track and Truck palettes.I am not sure, and prolly too lazy to work it out, so I take the easy route and get Traxx to create an "optimum" palette. That seems to work pretty well, but I guess the program is using the colours defined by the game (I know that in MTM2 each track has a unique palette - as opposed to MTM1's "universal" one).
For me, this is an unresolved problem and one which I am reluctant to spend time on trying to work out, because I have a feeling that by the time I DO - it will be old news (and Phin will have written another tutorial) Image

I'll re-read this topic tomorrow + the help files before I comment anymore

Not a fix but you could use this so the truck looked different in different tracks. I think orange crush looks cool in both colours.
ps. How many textures are in rockridge or the other one?

Suddenly I feel like Homer

Thanks Phin that makes perfect sense, I will give it a try sometime this week and post the results... (very busy week)

Andy, i agree with ya on that Superman truck but i can't take the credit, it was made by Fpotvin and the Orange Crush was made by Spin_R

SIG, Rock Ridge uses 113 textures and Saddleback currently has 103
I like the yellow version too, btw i just took a look at the truck in the new Zoonette track and its a cross between the two colors up top there,<HR>A Chameleon?

OK I extracted the textures from the trucks and made a blue and an orange 64x64 texture square using the dropper tool in psp, loaded them into traxx, pasted 6 or 8 squares onto the terrain then optimized the pallet.

Simple enough, but did it correct the problem? Yes </p>

Here's a before and after in Traxx</p>
