RIP

Post by _Vipa_ »

Usually I wouldn't login to MTMG. But when fused posted this link to me, I nearly died. GB was closer to me than most in MTM2. I can not believe it. I can only hope his family is okay.

I remember when he released traxx, that program inspired me to create some of my zone login programs. This guy knew his coding, its sad we had to lose him, as a developer, and mtm2er. :(

R.I.P my friend; you will never be forgotten.

Good words, all.

I'm saddened to hear the news, and my sympathy goes out to those close to him.

Bill's "Traxx" track making program is the very reason I entered and stayed in this community, and his own Traxx forum was where I first entered the community in early 1999. It was there that I met and interacted with Bill, who was indeed a likeable, intelligent, helpful and generous guy, not to mention extremely talented. From day one the basic version of Traxx was freely given to the community at large, and is surely the most important contribution to the longevity of this game (my view on that matter). The game itself was very appealing to me, but it was Traxx that truly hooked me, and it's no exaggeration to say that it changed and enriched my life, taking me down a path I would never have otherwise travelled. I'm not a racer or a Zone person, and never was, I am a track maker only, and Bill's Traxx has been a creative home to me for many years now, and will be for some time to come.

I appreciate all that Bill has done, I admire his work and will continue to do so, and I'm truly sorry he is gone from the world of the flesh that we yet live in. It's a fact that Traxx has brought pleasure to many and will continue to do so, from the track makers who use it to express their creativity to the racers who enjoy it's fruit. May we continue to remember and appreciate Bill for this one facet of his life and career, if for nothing else.

At one time Bill stated that making Traxx led to greater things in his career, which eventually led to the independently produced SpacePod game previously mentioned. As for his professional career as a whole, please click here to read an interesting summary of it in his very own words, detailing the work he has been involved with. Finally, lets not forget his impressive body of work in the Monster Truck Madness 2 track making field.

Note: There are more 'threads' of condolence and remembrance going on elsewhere, thanks to JM sharing the news that he knew we would want to know about (thanks man).

Traxx is the only reason I could even make tracks for MTM, the TRI editors would not run on the video Card I had.

I'll never forget thinking how hard it would be to make one, traxx school was the stepping stone to get thingsl figured out.

I only talked to him twice ever, once when I sent the money for the registration and it didn't work, lol.

Years later, I sent him an e-mail to ask him a question about the Midnight Club 2 Checkpoint editor and he responded right away.

I was really surprised. The first post here says he committed suicide. I hate hearing that simply because of the nature of it. Such a complicated thing to think about.

Condolences to his loved ones, may a peace be found.

Guitar Bill was an icon...

Post by DoGGS_ChI »

Whether we like to admit it or not... Guitar Bill is what made mtm2 what it was. Sure everyone liked to play on the stock tracks... but its the fact that TRAXX was such an easy to use program that allowed anyone with a little knowledge make a totally custom track. Ever since TRAXX i've seen many other editors use the same design that GB did...

This is really terrible news... and it couldn't come at a worse time seeing as how mtm2 is closing in the zone.

May God's angels be with Bill and the rest of the MTM2 community as it takes not one, but TWO tragic blows.

Suicide is never easy for anyone to bear, especially family. I just wanted to say, to the close friends and pals of GuitarBill that you all will be affected by this and it's the best medicine to grieve healthy.

With the support of the community running a tourney is a positive idea to help your own processes and grieve along side the friends, pals, and co-racers that new him. Also to just give yourselves a time to remember, hang out, have fun, and race.

Have a great time at the tourney if I can't make it, I'll be sure to fill in the ZOne Outkasts and see if we can get some racers there to help support the tourney. Peace and take care .. everyone.

SUGGESTION:

There is a tribute truck to Guitarbill in the works. Has anyone considered making a tribute track? Seems like that would be more appropriate a tribute to the author of TRAXX.

It could have countless small billboards or signs along the side of the course, each having the name of a long time or new MTM'er...Every well-known name from today and days past could be on a sign, including all those who aren't around anymore (like Yeastman, Enocell, etc...)

For as long as I can remember I've seen the name GuitarBill on many a download page, and discussions. Even though My lifestyle doesn't allow Me the time would I like to afford to play and be here, I am shocked and sorrowed to hear this news. My sincerest condolences to all who knew him personally whether online, or in real life, and especially to his family. He made a deep impression on many people globally, Myself included, because I too have used software of his, and by doing so, without even meeting, it connected us, as it has many. I've read the posts from people who knew him, and it is My loss that I am not one who did. He will be remembered by so many for a longtime for many things, as they vary widely from one individual to another, but through every post, and in every word that has been said, he will be remembered for His kind nature, and unique wit. With each hand that grips each wheel in every race, He will be there, because without him, we wouldn't be there either. He is synonimous, an intertwined part of this community, and he will be missed.

Hello. My name is Stephen Campbell (a.k.a. Nanook, IamZiggy & Mustang BOSS). I was an MTM2 truck creator when MTM2 was in its prime. I have known GuitarBil for a very long time and he ispired me to crate trucks and race. I know I will miss him and I pray for his family in there loss. He will be missed and his work in the beginning of the MTM Truck Creation Era will live forever in our hearts and harddrives. R.I.P. GuitarBill

Terrible news. As others have stated, GuitarBill and Traxx was the very reason I (more or less) stayed in the MTM2 community. It let me unfold my creativity, at least once I learned how to use Traxx properly.

I've never been much in touch with him other then when purchasing Traxx some years back, and my money order reached the wrong adress (he had moved, I think). It wasn't much he could do, but at least he responded to my e-mail instantly...

My condolences to his family and loved ones. May he find peace.

I have a tribute track in the making, your billboard idea is very good. Would you let me use it?

That's real bad. I haven't been on the board for a long time now and I just thought I'd take a look and see what was going on. Then I find this, gives you a weird sorta feeling when someone you've talked too does something like that even if you've never met them. It's a shame as Traxx in particular was a very well made editor with the little touches that made making tracks easy. I've had a lot of fun using it and now I'm taking a degree in games partly because of getting into MTM and seeing how much can be done with one game. The range of tracks is amazing and some of it wouldn't have been done without Bill. Sympathy to people who knew him well.

Gutted...

I just found out about this when KC mentioned it on his evo2 site yesterday..

If it wasn't for Guitar Bill many here would not be able to make MTM tracks, and many (like me) wouldn't have begun making evo1&2 tracks also.

Not only was he an exelent trackmaker, he is also the one that made it possible for many to start making tracks with that little program he build.

He has been the main catalist for me to start making tracks, and I allways be greatfull for that (I still use traxx to this day because of some features not available in the evo editors so that's how good traxx is...)

I remember in 1998 when I started making tracks with the little tool, many, many tracks went by before I made something decent enough to release.. So I didn't release it because I hadn't payed for traxx yet (try explaining that to kids these days). But the minute I received my code I went public with my first efforts.

He will never be forgotten since without him mtm AND evo would not be what they are today.

Rest in peace
