HD Stock textures

Post by Fila »

This is a bit more of an experimental thing. This replaces all the stock textures, including model textures, with upscaled versions. Mount them at the top. They do not include the HD backdrops, so they are separate.

This is going to look funky in addon tracks that use a mix of stock tracks and their own versions. My own Fila's Adventure/Elevation has this issue as I relied on The Excavation textures but then made my own modified versions to suit the track and those modified versions are stuck in the original blocky 64x64 :D

If anyone is curious and wants to take a look and see how it feels, feel free. Don't treat these as a definite final thing, I will probably update them over time and might change some if I can come up with a better look. I did a batch conversion here whereas some tracks probably require individual approach (for example the grass in Crazy98 and The Heights came out terrible in the batch conversion, had to do it separately).

Checked out the MTM2 pack this morning. Very very nice results! The heights and excavation were a couple of my favorites, and all the upscaled model textures look amazing.

It gave me a crazy idea: I don't know if you have to first recombine the patterns first like I was doing or if you've found a way to just upscale the individual tiles, but if it's the latter, I wonder if this upscaling could be hard-coded into the engine? When loading a track the game caches all of the textures, then it runs your upscaler script over the textures, loads those into vram in place of the originals, and shows you the track with upscaled HD textures. I bet you've had the same idea too. Could something like that work?

Not doable. I used the topaz gigapixel for the upscaling and that's proprietary algorithm that's not released to the public. Claude can't touch it either unless I pay extra money for a higher grade subscription to Topaz.
