45 degree help

Post by Kdawg »

I need some help for textures. I am trying to make 45 degree turns for my track. The textures themselves are similar to the template here on the template tutorial but when i go to get the 45 degree templates the road to the turns are 3 texture squares (180 pixels) and my road is only 2 texture squares (120 pixels) going into the turn so I need a template for a 45 degree turn like that. Thanks for any help. Here is a pic of the situation (scribbles in psp)

You need to make new templates. The templates here are the result of the tutorial, which shows how it's done. True, forty-five degree road sections are tricky but the same principles hold.

Tips.

Make a ninety degree corner and cut it at forty five degrees.
Make a straight section of road and rotate it forty five degrees.
Fit the road between the two halves of the corner.
Join up the two end sections free hand.
Now fill the same as you would for ninety degree templates.

How do I know where 45 degrees is though? is there something that can guide me in degrees? Thanks for the tips.

one way would be to take a straight section and just use psp to rotate it 45...

or you could draw a vertical line on a transparent canvas, rotate it 45, then paste it over your ground texture as a guide.

Thanks alot I finally got it, I had blank templates of the road from before both my turn and the straight. I put the 2x1 road pasted it on a bigger image and rotated it, then stacked them against each other and croped it. With the curve I could use most of the actual textures from the turn and only needing to make the inside curve textures. They are all set now, just gotta slice em up. And does anyone know how to make tire tracks on a texture? For example something like Guitar Bill's Dr. Scrotes(sp?) Volcano. Thanks.

Try paint brushes or tubes. Either can be very effective.

The Retouch tool (hand icon) works great when diffuse, and using modes such as soften, darken, smudge and the like.

Here is a set of templates similar to those I made and are described on phins template page. http://karf.net/mtmg/templates/ section 11

In addition to the various radius and crossroad templates, there is one straight / 45 diagonal crossroad and a diagonal / diagonal crossroad. Also instead of the full template for 45 degree diag I have 4 separate 45 degree diagonal templates that solve this problem listed here.
http://karf.net/mtmg/templates/11emcee1.html

I have a set of wider width templates that are the same layouts except I do not have the diagonal crossroad sections made for those.

If anyone wants them let me know, I will have to resave them all as gifs since they are still in psp format.
