MTM2 Beta Patch 0.47 - Improving from .46

Post by Fila »

Decided to start a new thread to keep it clean.
There's no new features in this, it's exclusively bug squashing from .46
You need to have .46 installed (the .pod files from there) and then just copy the .dll and .exe over

All the issues from the thread minus the CPU race times have been fixed... or have been attempted. So if you run into the same issues again, please post them here to make a note they have not been fixed.

Oh... and make sure you run the MTM1 drags ;)

Updated with a hotfix.

Admittingly enough, their size proportions look a little funny when played in MTM2, in comparison to MTM1 (little looking funny in that game too), but who cares? They finally work!

It looks like the background issues affecting the Team Death tracks and some others are fixed. The drag track fix is an awesome surprise, thank you! Something you might want to investigate is an issue with certain animated textures on the ground, specifically affecting Unseen Moon and the yellow portion of 3-2-1 Blast Off and maybe some others. It looks like the game isn’t interpreting those instructions correctly anymore, so textures are either stretched or in the wrong place.

Um, I hate to say, but...

The "Trans World Dome" stadium in the track looks off. The stadium in other stock drags looks fine to me.

That's because you are using dgVoodoo. It's going to mess up with the world view calls. You have to remove the dgVoodoo files from the MTM2 folder. I'm actually surprised this is the only issue so far.

This is probably in reference to what Fila is saying about dgVoodoo in the Beta 0.45 thread...

"Make sure you don't have any of the dgvoodoo .dlls in the MTM2 folder as they will intercept and act as a middleman."

Best start doing away without DgVoodoo if you want to achieve certain to best results with the DX9 renderer, at some stage, dgVoodoo will just about be rendered useless once something like Community Patch #3 is out.

EDIT: Fila has beaten me to this post, hahaha!

I will look into it.

P.S. Something no one picked up on, the top crush animation was broken but that one is fixed too.

Whoa, found a very interesting bug. If I first play 3-2-1 and then try to load Darkstar afterwards, it crashes darkstar.

Good news, I fixed both the animated terrain textures and the peculiar Darkstar crash. .46 introduced various bugs in the different weather systems so I am trying to iron them out before I release a hotfix. Also, I never knew (just tested now) the Darkstar is actually a bug that is from the original game. And it's because Darkstar was semi broken all along but required a specific condition to trigger it. lol

The issue is still there even after I moved dgvoodoo files from the mtm2 folder to "not needed" folder.

The stadium in this drag track do not fit in dirt area.

How does it look on the opposite side. That could help figure out if it really is a wrong placement or something to do with the z-buffer. (and the placement is correct)

Also find a dgVoodoo.conf file and move that one too (just to be safe)

I did moved "dgVoodoo.conf" file to another folder and the issue is still there.

How does it look like when you just look straight ahead (not back towards the truck). Am curious about the stadium placement.

you're looking back at the truck ahead. i'm asking for straight ahead like in Ford-Chan's picture. The mountains are not inside the stadium. Either for some reason the stadium placement is wrong specifically for your game or the renderer misaligns the visual placement, either due to your video card or dgvoodoo/nglide intercepting. You look like you removed dgvoodoo, did you ever have nglide installed?

Here's a hotfix. It fixes the animated terrain textures, stops Darkstar from crashing and fixes some of the weather stuff that got broken.
Haven't touched KF's stadium issue, waiting to find out more info about it.

I see Glide dlls in Kimiko's MTM2 folder, so those should probably be moved out too.

What's the status with water reflections? I haven't noticed any major issues with them on. I did however notice some stutters / pauses when playing off of a HDD that I did not notice when playing from a SD drive (Both external). The quick stutters happened when passing through some checkpoints which gave the horn sound on Spider's Bobsled Rally Way and when touching water, initiating a sound and splash, on some other track.

Add'l info: the machine I was playing on using HDD and seeing stutters is better (RX 6650 XT, Ryzen 5600g, etc...) than the machine with no stutters (RX 5600 XT, Ryzen 3400g, etc...).

In short... originally the water reflections were drawing 3 times the necessary power for no reason, so that got brought back down to 1 time only (as it should be). There is definitely performance loss with it on because it literally mirrors everything you see (so the game basically draws the world twice) but that is also because I might be overdoing it too. Since i don't test in normal gameplay (but instead use GOLD to fly the truck around) I see reflections from angles that normally one doesn't. So that means that maybe I could reduce the distance that gets reflected without affecting the way it looks (and that would save performance).

It sounds like your note is connected to sound and to be fair, there might be some serious discrepancy there in terms of visuals and the rest of the technical stuff. The sound/network code right now still uses the original DX5 code so that might be something worth looking into. That one for me is harder to test because I haven't had any issues (I'm using MTM2 on a HDD and haven't noticed any slowdowns when sound plays).
