Status of The Great Migration

Post by Fila »

Things are moving. Where I am at, it seems that propagation works at the slowest possible rate so making certain changes takes me forever. Anyway here's the deal:

Overall status of the website: Mostly broken :D

Forum: Forum itself works but some links within some posts might not be working correctly.

Downloads: Tracks and Trucks working.

Uploads: Tracks and Trucks working.

You have also noticed the forum looks vastly different. With the upgrade to the new server, the old forum was not compatible with the new php coding standard which meant we were forced to upgrade. Sadly the style of the old board was never updated. I am thinking of working on migrating the old style too but that is NOT a priority right now for obvious reasons. Functionality comes first. If anyone is willing to do it while I deal with the other stuff, I don't mind :)

Anyway, there's a few styles to pick from in the user preference if you guys wanna try any other ones. This one I felt it to be the closest to the original look.

Also, while I am working on the website and getting things fixed, user registration is completely disabled. The old forum had a workaround to avoid most of the spambots. That workaround does not exist in the new versions anymore. So until I have time to look into it and see what is the best way of avoiding having a gazillion spambots sign up per day, registration will for now be disabled.

Side note: Things are mostly broken for two reasons:

1. I've played around with the folder organisation which is easy fix.

2. The new php coding rules are different from the ancient one which is why things are broken. Ultimately I think this is a good thing as the code DEFINITELY needed a clean up, but it is going to take a little longer than expected.

Just about getting used to it, but looking pretty clean too.

Although, I do wish I could change my username right now, my aliases on other platforms is different to that of my current username on this forum, so I'm hoping at some stage that I can at least change it, but it still doesn't let me.

I have that disabled for now until I can deal with the forum in more detail.

The main page of the track downloads is now working. Track uploading works too. I still have to go through the spinoff track pages (like rumble page, races etc)

I've enabled the option. Let me know if/how it works. I'm probably gonna keep it disabled and only turn it on if someone requests it.

Hmmm... the edit username still shows up without a text box, even if I confirm my password.

So I enabled it for the board but you specifically weren't allowed to. I don't know if it's a group permission thing or whatnot, should work now as I specifically gave you the permission to do it.

Man something is killing the website and I don't know what. Performance wise. I'm looking at the server and it has 100% cpu usage :/

I think I have to disable all the database info on the starting page. Think with all the bots and crawlers that hit the front page, they keep running inquiries into the database and kills the server.

In other news, SSL is now enabled. Hope Kmaster is happy :p

Hello Flia, I'm curious if I can change my username as well.

So the front page was definitely messing with the server. It worked great all day. I've turned back the breakdown by year of the releases but I removed the math involving total downloads and average downloads. Those are not accurate anymore anyway due to bots. We'll see how the server behaves now.

Sweet! Although changing the name was kind of pain because it requires me a new password.
