Good light texture making

Post by Mat-Allum »

One issue I've met with many trucks is the headlight texture. I'm talking the "Sprite" type, not the "Model" type. I'm gonna show a big tutorial when I get the screenshots and the guts to do it. Then everyone'll be making custom lights (you need Photoshop 5+, you know...)

Here it is:

Open Photoshop. Create a new file, and match the settings to the ones in the following figure:

Now we have a blanky. Color it black:

Now, we use the selection tools and settings to make a blue circle:

Now click Filter>>Render>>Lens Flare. Match settings to the following figure:

Now convert to 8 bit. Click Image>>Mode>>Indexed Color. Match settings:

Now click File>>Save As. Save it in your Art folder. Click Save. Match the .BMP settings to this image:

How do you like your new headlight image?

The images have to be on the internet someplace.

As Phineus said, you have to upload pictures to a website first to display pictures on the 'net.

Try a free picture hosting site like http://www.freepicturehosting.com/

For more such sites use your favorite search engine and search under the phrase "picture hosting".

When you DO get them posted, please don't display so many pictures at one time, as it could make the page very slow to load. 3 or 4 would be fine, while the rest can be just posted as clickable links.

I'm not sure what you mean by headlight sprites, but custom headlight textures have been done for years.....nearly EVERYTHING in MTM2 has been done at one time or another.

There's a collection of custom headlight/tail-light textures around here somewhere (by Alpine I believe). I can't remember if Alpine's site is still around or not. I just make them from scratch myself.

when you "put an image in your post" you are actually just putting a link to the picture in your post. If you were actually uploading then it would take a long time to post and it would use up space on the mtm2 server. However - since you are putting links to pictures (even tho you dont have to click on the link - they just show up) when our computers load this page our computers look for images on out C drives. :0
so you need to upload it to somplace that everyone can load images from.
if you get an angelfire account and you upload images and rename them to .txt or .dat or .[any thing other than png gif jpg jpeg etc.] the the filter wont catch you linking to the image from this site.
heh.
or use an image uploader like the one on mtmr and mwg (does mwg have on working any more?)
Keep on MTMing,
