The cow in the back of the pickup truck is there no matter where the pod is mounted. It is in many, if not most of Mal's tracks somewhere.
I have not been walloped by any of them yet, they just moo at me for running into them.

I know it's been awhile since anyone has mentioned this track, but I have played it many times over the years, podded at the top, middle and bottom. I have not noticed any difference. Maybe I am just the unobservant type.

I forget the settings, you mainly needed speed. Intermediate made it barely possible.

Not being an engineer or a track maker, I do know in real life looping roller coasters, motorcycle stunts, etc., are not circular but a decreasing radius entering and an increasing radius exiting. A teardrop.
