In order to avoid naming conflicts with custom textures in other tracks, you are encouraged to use unique names when creating your own textures. However, since Slice60 allows five base name letters only, we soon realize how limited the naming system can become. The solution is the startIndex option.
Suppose you create a texture set based on a 14x14 template. When sliced, that will create 196 new textures. But now you find that you want more textures, in the track you're working on or for a new track. So, instead of slicing up a new texture set with a new name, just set the startIndex count to 197. The new textures will have the same name but will count upward from where the first set ended. Continue in this manner until the final slice reaches the 999 limit of Slice60.
Suppose you've created 800 textures while making your new track. It's finished, you pod it, and upload it to the net someplace where everybody can enjoy your fine handy work. But for you, it's time to begin a new project. This time, when you make new textures, please continue using the same base texture name and set the startIndex counter to 801. You will probably only get one slice (or two small slices) using that name. But that's okay. When you reach 999, just use another unique name. But by taking advantage of those last two hundred available numbers you have taken a large step to reduce the possibility of naming conflicts.
