Latest Updates

This is a reproduction of New_changelog.txt which comes with the BINedit program, which lists the changes which have been made to the latest version of the program since Rich took it on.


8/7/01 Version 1.00

Fixed problem of jarbled file name along mainframe title along with the two save dialogs' failure to appear when commanded, making BINedit WindowsME and 2000 compatible.


8/14/01 - Version 1.01

1) Removed useless "Test" item from About menu which would cause program to crash whenever selected.


8/19/01 - Version 1.02, Release 21

1) Fixed Store/Restore Face/Vertex Group menu option so that program will not crash when they are selected.

2) Fixed bug in "Map Face Group to Texture" dialog that caused a crash when mouse click occurred outside of RAW selection control with the drop-down menu open.

3) Fixed problem of accumulating texture files during model browsing.

4) Fixed problem of model being erased when an invalid model is "inserted" into the program.

5) Fixed problem of program crashing when attempting to load an invalid model from the browse window.

6) Fixed problem of program going into an infinite loop when trying to proportionally resize a 2-D model with the third (unused) dimension being given a nonzero value.

7) Fixed problem of program crashing when attempting to delete the program's only vertex.

8) Disabled menu items that are not applicable based on the state of the program. Note - Only "Vertex" and "Face" popup menus are affected so far.

9) Added hyperlinks to http://drive2survive.karf.net and http://karf.net/mtmg/Binedit and updated Oliver Pieper's homepage address within the Help dialog.

10) Added a "Save Prompt" which comes up automatically when the user attempts to terminate the program.


7/10/02 - Version 1.03

1) Made it so that the Save Prompt will appear whenever the user attempts to perform an action that would clear the contents of the current file (i.e. the "New File" command or closing the program) after changes have been made to it.

2) Made it so that the Save Prompt will not appear when attempting to close the program if no changes have been made.

3) Got rid of the "This BIN model uses a face type that is not recognized by MTM1" warning dialog that would appear upon saving if the "Shiny Texture" texture type was in use by a face.

4) Added toolbar buttons and menu items for zooming the model in and out.

5) Restored the wavefront file (.obj) import filter.


Updates/Additions Wish List

  • Edit/Undo command, preferably multiple (right click)

  • Add View/"Options", include command options: prompt to set faces to MTM1 type before closing, prompt to center model vertically before closing (eliminate from auto command)

  • View/Options: set light source ("lamp") location (take shadows from flat shading)

  • View/Options: timed save (configurable similar to Traxx, ie overwrite or special), save bins without reordering faces (optional to specify your own order for faces)

  • File/Export as .smf (4x4Evo model format)

  • Import filter that converts all unknown face types to standard MTM type

  • "Left mouse click" to select vertice or face

  • "Right mouse click" to add vertice, to delete selected vertice or face

  • "Show only 3D view" on/off button on toolbar.

  • Support for larger texture sizes, 512x512

  • Merge close vertices that also deletes, in one step, the unused ones that are left over.

  • Back ups. Timed back ups, and back up original models, eg: *.bin, *.bk1, *.bk2, *.bk3, etc.

  • Ability to see animated bins and textures in the program (view, right click or toolbar)

  • Zoom in/out command (view, Z/A key stroke, right click or toolbar) fix so parts of the model do not disappear because you're too close, or too far away.

  • Show face transparency "view"

  • Gray out the options that are not applicable when in certain editing modes

  • Normalize group (all) faces/textures

  • Import an MTM2 truck, including shocks and driveshaft - half way there (OP actually fixed the program so that MTM2 .TRK files are loaded without error, but shocks and driveshaft are not yet loadable)

  • convert face <-> vertex groups

  • Options/Display Resolution 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864

  • File/Preferences: set the default face type you'd like when you add a new face to a model (also link this to the "Change faces to **** type" prompt)


    Bugs

  • I know that there's one with the Face-Texture Mapping dialog that needs to be sorted. If you click the drop-down menu to select a different texture, then click anywhere else instead of selecting an entry from the list, the program gives an error and crashes. I have a tendancy to do this when I want to view the textures in the pool, but then decide I don't want to select another and am too lazy to find the originally selected entry. (D2S)
