Slayer, wtf??????

Avenged sevenfold has one of the most talented guitarists along with an overall great band, but again, you're comparing tool to a metal band. Tool is Tool, there is no genre for them and they do things no other band does because no other band can do it.

Tool is above and beyond avenged sevenfold, and i love avenged sevenfold. They don't come close to Tool though, not many bands do.

I'm not a very big tool fan myself, but i have all the respect in the world for the incredible work that band does. You can't argue that they're as talented as they are, their music speaks for itself.

here, this is one of their most loved songs,

Rockstar isn't my favorite of Nickelback at all either and it is overused, but Nickelback is good IMO, My Chemcial Romance is just garbage for my taste, no offense.

then you've proven my point that you don't understand what you're listening to. I don't care if you don't like them, but don't try to call them some "nu metal" band. They've been around for a looong time.

oh and, RuneScape FTW!

most respected band in the world? that seems to require a google search....

Hmm, first search result is curious....

seems like there is no most respected band.

All I can say was the first time I heard OF tool was when I got satelite radio 2 years ago, and I only noticed cause I went into my centre console (where i hide my radio) too change the station cause i couldnt stand it. and saw it was tool. And basically ever since whenever a song somehow makes me stop being lazy, open the centre console, just instinctivly hit a different preset, every once in awhile i peek in and sure anough, its either Rage against the machine, Tool, or nine inch nails. I could probably stand tool if the songs werent so long, if they took 3 minutes then, fine, i could be lazy enough to just listen to them, but either they way longer than 3 minutes, or time just seems to stop when they play a song (A watched pot never boils theory). I'm curious, if we put say, Iron Maiden, or Metalica, or Ozzy(or black sabbeth), Aerosmith, led zeplin (urk), up against Tool, who do you think would honestly be the most Respected? Keeping in mind that classic rock and classic metal are the two most poplour genres right now (darn old people :p) in North America (dunno about rest of world sorry)

Most respected bands in the world? Yeah right...

Metallica is respected. Ozzy Osbourne is respected. Judas Priest is respected. Iron Maiden is respected. Queen is respected. All of those bands got a legacy and they are the most respected in the world. Maybe I'm forgetting black sabbath and the ramones but for me tool is just a band, However, sorry if I called em nu metal. I didn't know what they play, I thought they played nu metal, (don't know exactly why since i never actually hear em)

anyway im not into hard rock, post grunge or glam metal, so ill just wont give any opinion of bands that are not to hardcore, thrash or metal

That should more than prove how incredibly well the band has done.

Slayer, so far i've gathered that you know nothing more than "oh yeah that's metal i like it!" and the fact that you've never heard of tool until a couple years ago is pretty sad.

Yeah? Well, I don't care how much you like them, that doesn't mean they're going to get respect does it? Some of my favorite bands and artists aren't really that respected, but I don't moan on about it.

Don't expect everyone to know about them just because you do, they may be talented but their music is terrible.

Oh, and Wikipedia? Haha! Wikipedia, now there's a trustworthy source of information, a site that ANYONE can edit.

Roadknight, i'm not a very big tool fan, but they are one of the most talented bands out there and have one of the biggest fan bases in the world. It's not a matter of me liking the band a lot, it's that you guys can't seam to understand how popular they are. You can ask any good musician and they'll tell you tool has incredible talent for music.

This is a perfect example of why i hate metal heads sometimes, you are so hard headed that you think anything that doesn't sound like it's derived from metallica and slayer sounds horrible. Learn to respect music, and maybe one day when you actually know something about music you can call tool bad, but i don't see that day anywhere near.

Basically, what i'm trying to tell you is, Go ahead and say you don't like them, but when you call it nu metal and not music and elevator music, that's when you will *beep* people like me off. I know how hard it is to write songs, and the structure and complexity of their music is amazing along with how incredibly well they do it.

About wikipedia, are you high?? I posted a link to a band that gave you a detailed background of the band, people will spot out when something about an extremely well known band is false.

Tool has been around for 18+ years so they obviously have a very big fan base and are very well known. This isn't just some new kid pop phenomenon.

white, is just an opinion, relax.

that's called elitistm, and that's the reason why im not a metalhead.

>>Basically, what i'm trying to tell you is, Go ahead and say you don't like them, but when you call it nu metal and not music and elevator music

If i was responsable for calling em nu metal Im sorry, i didnt know they were progressive/tech metal. But it is just a mistake you know, whats the big problem if I tagged em as nu metal, Is nu metal less music or less metal or something? not really. It was just a mistake.

I'm a wikipedian and I gotta say that Wikipedia is not very very reliable, but its ok.

I'm sorry, but sometimes i get upset over things that are small to others. Music is just a huge passion of mine, so sometimes i take it over the top.

>>that's called elitistm, and that's the reason why im not a metalhead.

Good, i can't stand how hard headed they are sometimes.

Numetal, to me, is like labeling something as the next culture fad that will die within a year. Tool is one of the leaders in music, and a lot of today's bands credit tool as their influences, especially Maynard's vocals.

>>I'm a wikipedian and I gotta say that Wikipedia is not very very reliable, but its ok.

They're generally very accurate with bands, especially big bands, because there are fans hardcore enough to point out the flaws and demand change.

>>Tool has been around for 18+ years so they obviously have a very big fan base and are very well known. This isn't just some new kid pop phenomenon.

We know... now lol

Just taking me back to my earlier point, Tool is one of the leaders in what we hear in a lot of today's music. So in a way, talking down on tool is like somebody talking down on metallica or whatever band you could relate it to. It's just really saddening to see people act like they're a bunch of nobodies when they're one of the most influential bands of the 90's.

I guess being that this is more of a metal thread, you guys could relate to older tool better. I'm probably just wasting my time now, but here are a couple older songs,

older tool? well that could explain it, maybe the garbage ive heard is "new tool"?

By the way I have asked around, even people that like light rock, hard rock, metal, rap, classical, everyone, that has heard of tool dislikes them, the ones that hadn't heard of tool, I am not considering.
I can't give actual numbers cause it was mostly random forums, random chats, random HMV stores, etc.

I believe 2 people said tool was an alright band. That is about how they described it.

This sorta reminds me of those U2 fans that think U2 is all great.
At least Maddox covered that one for us :)

Yeah i guess the 13+million record sells means nobody knows about them right?

seriously, what is your problem. Looks at Kmaster, he has some dignity and respect and can go about things with a little class unlike you who just tries as hard as you can to prove me wrong in whatever you're trying to prove me wrong for and if that means *beep* me off, then so be it apparently.

You're ignorant beyond all reasoning.

This should just about sum the band up for you, and hopefully shut you up.

Tool is an American, three-time Grammy Award winning progressive metal band that was formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California. The band has sold over 13 million records worldwide, and consists of drummer Danny Carey, bassist Justin Chancellor, guitarist Adam Jones, and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Tool has hosted worldwide tours and produced albums which have performed well on international music charts due to their cult status in the world of music.[1]

The band emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first LP at a time when the genre was dominated by thrash metal, and later reached the top of the alternative metal movement with the release of their second LP, Ænima, in 1996. Their efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution continued with Lateralus (2001) and their most recent album, 10,000 Days (2006), gaining the band critical acclaim and success around the world. Due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and relatively long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transgressing act and part of progressive rock and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent,[2] at times marked by censorship and the band members' insistence on privacy.[3]
