Hi, I'm not going to be a serious user on this forum. I tried the MTM2 demo conversion, followed all the steps, and it says it can't install the patch! What's going on?! :?

Probably the registry. I mean, you're not giving us much to go on.

Sorry... I tried to do all the registry stuff, but when I double clicked it, it said "Could not merge file. You can only merge registry files.". And I tried to add the lines manually, but to no effect. [uhoh]

Hi Rocky :)

I know you said you did, but you must complete every step given on the page, as described, in the order described. If you miss one, anything afterwards will not work. So:

1. Do you have the demo installed?
2. Where is it installed?
3. Does it run?

> "Could not merge file.

This is a problem, without this the patch won't work at all so we need to figure out why this isn't working for you.

4. What version of Windows are you using?
5. If XP, do you have administrator privileges?

> I tried to add the lines manually, but to no effect.

Hmm, I'm sure you did.

6. If I were to mention REGEDIT would you know what I was talking about?

Answer those for us and we'll have a much clearer idea of where you're at.

Sorry, massive cock-up in the previous post... Right, I am using Windows 98 on a Packard Bell Intel Inside Pentium II. I did get the expanded version of the MTM2 trial working on this PC before, but I had to re-install the operating system. I lost it. [uhoh]

Do you have any way of recieving our (although I was not in on it) MTM2 full version ISO?

If I had known you guys had something like that, I'd never have suffered through six weeks of suspense. Had to go to Outpost. But it was lucky, of course, it was the last one in stock - HOLD IT! I have to stop right now, I am never this much of a chatterbox, babble babble babble...

Okay, so you know your stuff. Just checking.

I puzzled, I don't know why it shouldn't work now.

Is that the exact text of the error message?

The exact message was:

"Cannot import C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\MTM2.REG: The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files"

And I don't really have an effective way to get the CD ISO file. On my download manager (Standard, comes with browser), I mean, c'mon, 5gb?! Get outta here... Anyway, it doesn't matter now. I'm getting a copy off eBay. I won it, and I sent off the payment so it should get here about this week. When I get it, I'm probably gonna register on this forum.

Glad to hear you could find a copy.

Just for the fun of it, what folder did you install the demo to? This or something different?

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Monster Truck Madness 2

It would still be nice to see what went wrong. I assume you renamed the exe file too.

Well, I installed it to the default directory. And guest, if you have'nt got the game, I think there's one on eBay right now!

You can also find copies of Monster Truck madness 2 at Amazon.com. I just looked, and they have 5 copies available.

Note: The install directory doesn't matter. I have 2 copies of the game installed, both are installed in custom directories, and the patch installed into both copies just fine.

My game locations
C:\Monster Truck Madness 2
C:\testing\Monster Truck Madness 2

Just make sure the mtm2pat.EXE install file is in the actual game folder before you double-click on it. Beyond that, I cannot say what is causing your patching error.

Sorry for all this fuss on the thread. I've got the game now, so it does'nt matter at all. Requesting thread closure.
